United Airlines Adds BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger To Bistro Menu

Matthew Klint Posted onFebruary 24, 2022November 14, 2023 36 Comments

United Airlines is updating its Bistro On Board menu next month with a pair of new hot sandwiches, including a brioche BBQ bacon cheeseburger. Other catering changes are also planned.

A New BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger And Other Changes To United Airlines Catering In March 2022

United periodically rotates its catering in both premium and economy class cabins and March 2022 marks the introduction of two new sandwiches, both of which look pretty tasty.

An asiago bagel sandwich will feature eggs, bacon, and cheese on a bagel (served hot) and be offered on domestic flights longer than 3.5 hours that depart before 9:45am.

A brioche BBQ burger will feature a beef patty with Grand Cru cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, and BBQ sauce and be offered on domestic flights longer than 3.5 hours that depart after 9:45am.

These will replace the current sandwiches onboard, which includes a bacon, egg, and cheese spiral croissant in the morning and a classic beef butter burger with cheddar in the afternoon and evenings. Do note that from some stations, particularly Chicago (ORD) and Newark (EWR), you may continue to see the classic burgers until the supply runs out.

Other catering changes in March include a much-needed upgrade to the pre-arrival service for economy class and Premium Plus (premium economy) on flights to Sydney (SYD) from Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO). United will offer passengers a choice between a warm “everything bagel” sandwich with cream cheese or oatmeal. Both will be served with heated bread and yogurt. Australia has recently reopened to foreign tourism and Qantas offers a far more substantial pre-arrival meal on the same routes, particularly in premium economy class.

Kosher meals will be now be available on all longhaul flights and port wine will be re-introduced to Polaris business class. Dewar’s Scotch will be removed (United blames a lack of demand). Glenfarcles will still be available.

Finally, on domestic flights a Denver-style egg scramble will replace the current spinach and kale egg white bites.

CONCLUSION

United Airlines is making small modifications to its catering next month, with a pair of new sandwiches available for purchase onboard. Pre-arrival service to Australia will improve and customers traveling in Polaris business class will see the return of port wine. Kosher meals will be available for pre-order on all longhaul routes.

There’s still no word when appetizers will return to Polaris business class or when we might expect to see the domestic first class menu (chicken breast with chimichurri or ragu polenta) be rotated.

That’s it. I’m flying UA from here on out.

(ok slight hyperbole) but I love me some greasy, unhealthy burgers.

Served Hot? Served from the microwave. No better than the frozen food you get at your local grocery store.

Your second sentence may be true, but there are ovens onboard.

And you wonder why you can’t get a rare steak on an airplane?

For that we have to blame the fact that the steaks are generally pre-cooked. Even though the onboard ovens theoretically could cook them, in most cases they are just warmed in the oven.

That said, I recently was served a very rare steak on United (by request). Stay tuned for that report.

My roommate prefers heating things in the oven vs. microwave. I can see both sides. If it’s quality meat kept cool for a minimal time results should be good plus the bread heats better in the oven.
Beats a bag of beef Jerky or chips.
        Enjoy!

Serious question? Are there plenty of napkins involved? Is Pace Pjcante Sauce or Jalapenos available on any US carriers? The TSA 3-1-1 rule is very limiting.
Also, is it ok to tip FA’s in Visa/MC credit cards?
How much can they be worth before being considered gauche?
        Asking for a friend….

They serve an “everything baguette” in F for breakfast that is 580 calories 32% of your daily fat, 64% of your daily saturated fat, 20% of your daily cholesterol, and 59% of your daily sodium. Under/over on the burger?

Matthew, this is a bit off topic, but can you find out when United plans to reopen the rest of their lounges? Guam and NRT have been closed for two years, despite increasingly heavy traffic at both locations. Thanks!

GUM UA Club remains closed because they’re opening a brand new one right next to gate 13. The exterior is done and but I dont know what might be going on in the interior.

Nice to have the economy purchase but they need to up their Polaris and even short haul first meal game fast, even AA and Delta moving ahead of them now

When I came to US with my parents in 1993 I was 13 years old. I flown United from Washington DC to San Francisco on a B747. It was a late afternoon flight. The meal in economy (included) was a beef burger with baked potatoes.

Can we please change the first class meals? The ragu and chicken are disgusting.

I have been filling out the feedback form for every flight I’ve taken the past few months saying how bad they are, but they don’t seem to listen.

Wake up, they don’t care because we accept it. Nothing changing anytime soon. Stop being so cheap and buy a Popeyes meal before boarding. It’s all on you if you expected a decent meal on an airplane.

Trust me, you aren’t that special to an airline regardless of your job you think matters in life. And YES, people like you will keep flying spending your money for overpriced FC. And if you did it on miles thinking the airlines “need” you, again wake up.

Clown World and you just continue to contribute to it.

Also, pre-meal beverage service is returning to all international flights in business and economy class on March 1st. That means nuts will be served before the meal and economy will also get a pre-meal snack with the first beverage service.

I’m flying United business class BWI-Houston-Quito on March 4.. What can I expect for food? Quick connection in Houston with no time to purchase food.

Expect a hot meal on both flights, with choice of sandwich (gooey and unhealthy) from BWI-IAH and a more substantial meal with side of fruit, bread, and cookie from IAH-UIO.

Glad to see some changes to the menu… now let’s do something about the domestic F service as AA/DL catch up and begin to surpass United!

I look forward to trying these once, and then probably passing on them in the future for no other reason than I value my cardiovascular health…

My wife and I flew back from Hawaii yesterday on a Triple 7. We were in premium plus because all 50 seats in Polaris seem to have been unavailable to 1K’s using plus points. We were served some kind of vegetarian meal, I don’t even know what half of it was. It was terrible, I would have been much happier with a burger. But I hope that there barbecue sauce comes on the side, cuz a lot of people don’t like barbecue sauce on their bacon cheeseburgers including me

Interestingly, they very meal was addressed in a flight attendant memo I saw yesterday. Those vegetarian choices from Hawaii are quite unpopular and UA will be provisioning more meat options on future flights (currently chicken katsu from Hawaii).
