The Airline Meal I’ve Had Most Often

Those of us who fly often tend to settle into a routine. Admit it. Same security line, same seat in the lounge, same seat onboard, same meal. For my Meal of the Week segment this week, I pay homage to the airline meal I’ve had more often than any other.

My MillionMiler status on United Airlines did not come overnight: it took a decade of flying on United. From 2004-2013 nearly every non-award flight I took was on United and the loyalty paid off. I now have Star Alliance Gold Status for life, or at least until United decides to rescind it.

Over those years I took many, many breakfast flights and rarely deviated from ordering eggs. From the time of the merger in 2011 to last year, the dish always looked the same—

Ah yes, the cheese omelet with cheesy potatoes, a circular puck of pork sausage, fruit, yogurt, and a cinnamon roll.

People on Flyertalk would often complain about this breakfast, but I never minded it. In fact, I looked forward to it…every time. What’s not to like about fat and carbs?

United has updated its breakfast menu and now rotates it more often. That’s probably more pleasing to more people, but sometimes I miss this breakfast.

    I have eaten plenary of those too but now avoid then. Sitting on planes a lot and then loading up with saturated fats is a recipe for a heart disease. The fruit plate with cereal option in UA’s international routes is a surprising good alternative.

    But now they only seem to have that dry-ass turkey sausage.
    Yuck.
    Bring back the pork.

    OMG I love UA omelets! I was in F last month and chose the omelettyest choice out of 3 options: Potato+egg something or other. Pretty disappointing 🙁

      Well who wants cold cereal? The omelet is really the only choice.

    i most certainly don’t miss those, but the cinnamon roll was always delicious when warm.

    The pictures brought back fond memories. I miss the cheesy potato wedge, but glad the super hot cherry tomato is gone! The new fiesta scrambled egg/soggy tortilla concoction is an abomination.
