As United Airlines continues to restore services to a pre-pandemic level, complimentary snacks in economy class will return to all but the shortest flights.
United Airlines Adds Complimentary Snacks On Shorter Flights In Economy Class
In a memo to flight attendants reviewed by Live and Let’s Fly, United announced that it will add free snacks to economy class flights over 301 miles, starting on January 1, 2023:
Providing our customers with the best Inflight experience possible is one of our top priorities, and our complimentary snack and beverage service plays an important part. To help elevate our service, we’re adjusting our current snack offering on our short domestic flights.
On January 1, domestic and United Express flights starting at 301 miles or more will receive complimentary snack offerings along with a beverage service. Snack selections will vary based on AM and PM flights.
Current United Airlines snack service policy limits complimentary snacks to flights over 800 miles:
For flights under 800 miles long, we won’t have complimentary snacks available, but you’re always welcome to bring your own snacks on board.
Flights over 500 miles will also have additional products like snack boxes, and flights 1500 miles and over have Bistro on Board items available for purchase.
Thus, the new policy not only expands which flights include free snacks, but also applies to United Express flights.
Current sections include pretzels, stroopwafels, and biscoff cookies. I’ve done well in resisting these treats this year and bringing them home for my kids. It will be nice to receive them even on shorter flights that I frequent between Southern California and the Bay Area.
CONCLUSION
United Airlines is adding free snacks to economy class on flights between 300-800 miles, expanding the flights that are eligible for free snacks. Those who love a sweet or savory treat with their onboard beverage should celebrate this news.
When it comes to snacks on United, what is your favorite treat from the selection of onboard offerings?
what about for first class?
They will get snacks too. Would love to see UA add a hot scone on AM flights and warmed mixed nuts on PM flights on these shorter flights, but one step at a time.
It seems weird that F would get the exact same snack as Y, which is what it looks like they’re planning to do. I hope they improve it somewhat, for instance bring back the pre-COVID snack basket selections.
Wow. I’m always the first to heap scorn onto Kirby for taking the free route to make any improvements to the customer experience but I will cheerfully eat my words on this one. Nicely done, Kirby. Now how about resuming the wine flights in Polaris?
Because the regular wine they offer isn’t good enough for you people.
You and your kind remind me of Billy Bob in Bad Santa when he finally realizes there is something wrong with Tony Cox and his Asian wife when they steal stuff they don’t need.
Is it any wonder why class envy is an issue in todays woke America? You people throw it in the average working Americans face at every opportunity you get.
What do you mean? Where did this come from against Christian?
My point was a glass of wine isn’t enough, he wants the flights of wine.
Come on, the minor issues we (yes I’m part of the we that are fortunate enough to frequently fly) complain about is so far from the reality of average Americans. There comes a point where it comes off as out of touch, especially this week.
And I understand this is a site that the average American never visits, still. Sometimes even a grinch like me realizes how lucky we are, regardless of what sacrifices and hard work we did to get where we are.
Have a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays Matt!
Dude, look at what you’re writing. You’re acting like a troll, very possibly a racist troll. Skip the childish attempts at triggering and stick to the subject. The prior CEO initiated wine flights and Kirby stopped that so I’m not asking for anything that wasn’t offered fairly recently.
Thanks for the great comment.
I want wine flights because I’m better than you
I’m better than 98% of Americans by income and IQ and better than 99.99% of the world in those regards. I deserve those wine flights because I really am that damn good. If you can’t take that, then grab a gun and start a revolution. Otherwise, shut up, prole.
You didn’t really have to mention the race of his wife.
Tells you a lot, doesn’t it?
And then he has to slip in a “happy holidays” type comment. It’s kind of bizarre.
Just making sure you understood the characters in a MOVIE.
Ok, let’s play.
Chrissy, you should have seen what the previous CEO on Pan Am gave us in the 70’s. Times change in the industry, my point stands that you don’t need a cheap wine flight on a plane. Unless you are an alcoholic, but then the cheap regular wine would be fine. And calling someone a troll is against the rules.
Matt, please remind Chrissy of the rules against attacking the poster instead of the message.
Aaron, have a Merry Christmas brother! Or Happy Hanakkuh! Or praise Allah, whatever it is for you.
Mrs C, if you in a rare coincidence you are the Mrs Cooper that sucked me off in Vegas last week, let Mr C again know he’s letting you go to waste while he he thinks that traveling assistant is worth wasting his cash on.
In any case, Merry Christmas!
Shhhh, grownups are talking.
Ok Chrissy. Keep crying because you can’t get a flight of wine. Trust me, I can say anything I want and you still look like the baby crying you can’t get multiple wines on a plane ride. Why not go public with your name and that complaint and see how you are treated by the public. Better yet, list your employer and ask them to defend you and your beliefs, and if they represent the companies views.
You will quickly see how out of touch you are.
Love wine flights! I would be happy if the FAs in Polaris would refill my water glass during the flight . The service has opportunities for improvement. I had a FA admonish me for asking for water because there was a bottle at my seat when I boarded.!
This means that Lufthansa officially offers a worse Y service than its US joint venture partner. Well done to Captain Carsten!
Well, LH is lost.
Please enjoy a biscoff….and forget about our racist/bigoted board member/union chief.
So…sick…of…pretzels and biscoff.
Stroopwafel warmed on your cup of coffee is always welcome.
Will United ever offer low carb snacks or menu items? Maybe something keto?
There is beef jerky on the paid snack menu. I would love to see something GF and/or low-carb, high-protein. However, this is better than (literally) nothing.
Jesus F’n Christ Matt, what is wrong with you people? If you need some special personal choice diet garbage, BUY it before you get on the plane. Again, you are on a plane ride, not at dinner at a fancy restaurant. Be happy for anything you get. To your credit, you did somewhat say that.
I sometimes wonder if people like Dan make this stuff up to get a reaction. In this and Chrissy’s case, it worked.
More choice is always better! I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t welcome additional choice, products, services, snack options, etc. The more the merrier! I, for one, am looking forward to the day when United rotates the complimentary snacks like Delta or JetBlue. I’ve gotten tired of pretzels, and would love to see chips or small-sized kind bars.
Although JetBlue never has the blue chips anymore – I really miss those.
How about a free carry-on for B/E tix? Otherwise, UA is simply not competitive on an equal fare basis w/ DL or AA.
Meanwhile, my most frequented route, IAH-BJX, which is just shy of 800 miles has their first class service consist of just drinks… I mean cmon even Delta does snack baskets on shorter flights.
Although on an ideal world, I’d love to see united do what delta does, and expand their snack offerings in economy to have more than just 1/2 options.
My dear friend, this comes to proof that you can’t have everything in life!! But hey, you just have to take it with stride and soldier on!! Btw, great videos and reviews!! Fly safe and have a great holiday season 🙂
Wine flights went away before Kirby, due a combination of issues;
1. FAs hated it due to the extra workload
2. It increased wine consumption considerably, and way beyond projections- which led to cascading stock out issues
3. The added wine consumption led to supply chain challenges and budget challenges
Thank you for a logical response! The world changes and some don’t understand it and cry about it.
Ironic, coming from a MAGA type stuck in a mid-20th century mindset
I understand why it happened, but I have say it is a shame, since i rather enjoyed the entire experience of having the wine flight back in 2017 on my flight to Rome.
Back in August. I tried most of the wine on swiss air, asking the steward for his recommendations, and it was absolutely lovely. (I do not know much about wine, more of an espresso/whiskey drinker)
I’m gluten free so I always pack trail mix, dried fruits and hard candies . That way I always have something that I like. I buy some wine on the plane and I’m happy and mellow. If the plane fare is decent, that is a bonus for me. I’m trying the gf meal on my next international United flight. Hope it is better than what Delta has to offer. I never order gf on Delta anymore…take my chances and supplement with my stash!!
