United Airlines Will Provide Eye Protection To Flight Attendants

United Airlines will allow, but not require, flight attendants to wear eye protection and face shields effective next month. In fact, United will even provide free eyewear.

United Airlines Will Provide Eye Protection To Flight Attendants (But Not Shields)

Some flight attendants, as well as the AFA union representing United flight attendants, have pushed United to allow flight attendants to wear eye protection or face shields. United has finally relented.

In a memo to flight attendants shared with Live and Let’s Fly, United stresses that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) does not encourage the use of such protections outside medial environments. Nevertheless, it will allow for the optional use if either item.

In fact, early next month United will offer plastic anti-fog eye protection to all flight attendants. This eye protection will be available in two varieties; one for flight attendants who wear glasses and one for flight attendants who do not.

Only United-issued eye protection can be worn. Eye protection is not a replacement for masks, which are required at all times.

Furthermore, eye protection and face shields cannot be combined. United has added all sorts of restrictions concerning face shields. For example, face shields must be removed during taxi, takeoff, and landing. Also, no text, pattern, or logo is allowed.

CONCLUSION

Look for flight attendants not only to be masked, but to wear face shields or eye goggles next month. How helpful or harmful those are depends upon how well they are cleaned and maintained. Hopefully they will be prohibitors of germs, not incubators of them…

@ Matthew — I love how United is trying to follow the CDC guidance that was set by the Fuhrer. I guess if they want to be “in” with our Fascist government, they have to go along. That is what America has become. It doesn’t end well.

@ Matthew — No, I was referring to The Fuhrer forcing the CDC to change their guidelines to leave out things that experts agree should be included, such as a recommendation to wear eye protection. Remember Dr. Birx? She recommended eye protection, among other things, but where are she and Dr. Fauci now, in a an internment camp?

I’m no fan of Trump, Biden or two party system for that matter, but your comparison of Trump (or Führer as you say) to Hitler and suggesting (sarcastically) Fauci and Brix are in camps shows how insensitive you are to the struggles of the Jewish people and the horror they endured. You’re just displaying how ignorant you are on what true fascism is with carelessly using such terms.
