United Airlines is adding daily nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Singapore starting on October 27, 2017.
The new routes demonstrate commitment to UA’s LAX hub and again beat out Singapore Airlines, who launched its own nonstop service between San Francisco and Singapore last year months after United did the same.
United will use a 787-9 for the new route, which will become the longest flight to/from the United States. Here’s the schedule:
- UA37 Los Angles (LAX) to Singapore (SIN) departing 8:55 p.m. arriving 6:50 a.m +2 days
UA38 Singapore (SIN) to Los Angeles (LAX) departing 11:00 a.m. arriving 10:15 a.m.
That is going to be long flight: 17 hours, 55 minutes westbound and 15 hours, 15 minutes eastbound. 8,700 miles to be exact.
LAX is Safe
LAX United travelers should be breathing a sigh of relief today. The hub status of LAX appears secure. Not only does this new route announcement signal a commitment to Los Angeles, but United’s investment at the Coliseum and $570MN renovation project at LAX (including a new United Club, newly redesigned gate areas, check-in areas, security and baggage claim) discounts any concerns United is soon abandoning LAX as a hub.
CONCLUSION
My prediction: we will soon hear a similar route announcement from Singapore Airlines. National pride is at stake and though both Singapore and United are Star Alliance partners, Singapore won’t let this one go.
Final result: more choice for LA travelers, more options for using your miles. Good news all around.

Fantastic news if this pressures Singapore Airlines to add the route also. I’d much prefer to spend 8700 miles with them than UA.

You left out they are stopping HKG-SIN service. I’ve got SIN-HKG-SFO booked in Jan of 2018. But yet it still shows in my app as valid. When do you think they will update this so I can make the most of my schedule change? You think UA will let me fly SQ all the way???
I did leave it out deliberately because I am going to do a whole story on it tomorrow. This was one of United’s last Fifth Freedom Route.
