The United Airlines club lounge at London Heathrow celebrated the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II yesterday with a special selection of tasty treats and decorations. It represents just one of the thousands of similar parties that are taking place across the United Kingdom this weekend.
How United Airlines Celebrated The Platinum Jubilee Of Queen Elizabeth II
Yesterday was a day of celebration in the UK, the first of three days that commemorate Queen Elizabeth II for her 70 years on the throne.
To celebrate, the United Club in London Heathrow Terminal 2 laid out a special spread of treats, including:
- Jubilee cupcakes
- Double chocolate cookies
- Wow butter granola bites
- Kiwi lime mini loaf
- Assorted macarons
- Chocolate brownie bites
- Raspberry & white chocolate chip cookie
The pictures above are from the 1K/Global Services side of the lounge, but a similar selection was available in the main part of the lounge, with scones and poundcake as well.
There was also special gin from Slingsby in honor of the Jubilee.
The entire lounge was dedicated with red, white, and blue balloons and Union Jacks, along with white and purple balloons which represent the monarchy.
I visited the lounge ahead of my flight back to the USA and found the staff in a celebratory mood. I appreciated that United Airlines, at least in the UK, also recognized the Queen for what has been a lifetime of public service.
I’ll have a lot more details about my trip later today.
There’s a 1k/gs part of the lounge?
I recognized it from when I used to fly GlobalFirst out of LHR. I had no idea that 1Ks could now use it as well as GS.
I’m not sure that is the case, but I was directed to use it yesterday because the other side was so crowded. (“we are letting some 1Ks use this”)
So maybe dressing up can get you an upgrade!
I’m a 1K . Prepandemic, last time I was through LHR, I checked into the lounge. She said you have sort of a long layover. It was about 6 hours. She asked if I was by myself, which I was. So she said you can use what she called the first class lounge. The main lounge by itself is one if the nicer. This side had an actual sit down restaurant.
The sense I got is that it is not an official 1K lounge, but agents have discretion to send over 1Ks, particularly when the main part of the lounge is crowded.
I came here to ask this same question.
Did you sample all those tasty treats? Not for yourself, of course, but for the readers.
No. But all looked good.
I was just in the lounge earlier today and had no idea there was a 1K section. Super bummed. Would have been nice if the lounge staff told me that was available to me when I came in as the main room was packed.
Sigh! I remember when many airports had 1K lounges. They were separate from the Red Carpet Lounges (now United Clubs). They weren’t fancy but they weren’t crowded either.
“Union Jack flag” is a contradiction. It is the Union Flag when on land and the Union Jack when at sea. It would be similar to saying “United Air Lines Airline”.
Wow, how considerate of United to diabetic needs. Ohh, now, how I wish United would Platinum Jubileed there Polaris experience for once!
I hope that was just an overcrowding issue. If not, allowing 1Ks access is yet another devaluation of GS benefits. Glad to see the space reopened. It was not when I was there in March.
I was told it just reopened. The a la carte menu is coming back, but not present yet.
No wonder they didn’t put that in the regular lounge. The offerings would have been gone in two minutes flat with 140 people still waiting in line behind. For what looks like to me the equivalent of a Dunkin Donuts menu.
