Next month, it is widely expected that United will unveil its next-generation business class seat, which will include a closing door. In the meantime, one passenger got creative, utilizing the day blanket standard in United’s onboard bedding to create a makeshift privacy curtain during her flight.
It may not be Air France La Première, but she had the same idea…
Maybe a flight attendant can weigh in here…is something like this even allowed? I appreciate the ingenuity and chuckled at it, though I’m not sure why the privacy is actually needed…but I suppose that’s the same reason why I am skeptical about all business class suites with doors in the first place…
United actually has real curtains that go around flight crew seats in business class on some of its aircraft like the 777-200 and 767-300, but like this makeshift attempt, the “curtains” look pretty sloppy.
We’ll see what the new cabins on United look like soon enough and hopefully, no passengers will feel the need to make their own doors or curtains…

Could the United FA say that the blanket is not an FAA approved curtain and then have the passenger arrested as a “disruptive passenger” and a passenger that is taking photos?
Oh please. Who hasn’t wanted to create a barrier at one time? I used a blanket & shell hooded jacket to try block out a couple that refused to sit next to one another yet could not quit bickering. Athens to JFK.
Not a flight attendant, but Thai airways once offered this to me in First. Everyone flying was on the starboard side windows, center seats were open and I was in 1A. The flight attendant offered to hang blankets which were wedged in the overhead bin. Genius and I had a private cabin basically.
Amazing this did not lead to immediate diversion of the flight. US based airlines generally seem to divert at first opportunity.

My wife and I would set up blanket barriers all the time for privacy while she was breastfeeding our infant. Or to help the little guy sleep if the cabin was bright.

It’s public conveyance. Fly your private jet if you want privacy. The F/A’s are there for the safety of all pax, not to cater to the needs of one.
