Want to help United Airlines avoid another #leggingsgate or #bumpgate? Now’s your chance! The carrier is hiring a Public Relations Manager.
You can read the full job description here, but I do find the opening paragraphs of the job description to be not the least bit amusing–
Along with transforming the way United does business, we are reimagining our airline’s award-winning Global Communications Team from nose to tail. Led by former Starbucks Corporate Communications executive, Jim Olson, United is building a state-of-the-art communications function that puts strategic storytelling and digital engagement at the center of our employee advocacy, media and influencer relations, and public affairs capabilities.
The pace is fast, our standards are high and the opportunities are boundless. If joining us in building a forward-thinking, path-blazing, world class communications team sounds intriguing – let’s talk. Being part of big, transformative moments like this are rare – so, if you have the courage, the creativity, the conviction, the agility, the leadership and most importantly the passion to help United reclaim its reputation as one of the world’s great and resilient companies we hope you’ll consider embarking on this journey with us.
This posting went up two days ago, so it was after the doctor was dragged off the aircraft. Still, I’d have to imagine this job description was written before Sunday. In light of the recent PR snafus, “reimagining” the PR team takes on a whole new light. Yes, United needs a “forward-thinking, path-blazing, world class communications team”. No, it does not have one yet.
Of course an airline the size of United has a large PR department. I’m not saying this job listing is as a result of the recent incidents. I am saying that the timing is a bit humorous!
I’d consider the job out of sheer charity 😉, but it is in “Southern Command” (Houston) and requires fluency in the Spanish language.

Just curious- would this position allow to beat people unprovoked? That’s mostly what I am looking for at this point in my career and United seems like a great fit.
I wrote my application for this job just the other day: knitmeapony.tumblr.com/post/159465309884/job-application
What Untited Airlines needs most is an everyday down to earth regular person to bolster its heavily damaged reputation. To see a video of what happened on that plane to a paying customer was disgusting and downright ludicrous. Attitudes are everything and that video showed no one at United has a clue as to right or wrong. No one tried to help. Shame on them!!! I’d overhaul the entire system piece by piece!!! Theirs a better way to conduct business, these guys need to learn how to do it the right way. Recovering from a horrific act like this one won’t be easy United. It’s going to take a lot of flying and a lot of firing to make it work. I would only consider this if I had free reign to overhaul the entire system. Yours has obviously failed miserably.
