United Airlines announced it will suspend planned seasonal service to 21 international markets this summer, but only announced five specific routes as part of its plan to roll out schedule reductions gradually.
United Suspends Five Additional Atlantic Destinations For Summer 2020
Five additional transatlantic destinations will not see planned service this summer, as United forecasts low demand and a gradual easing of travel restrictions.
- Bermuda (BDA)
- Glasgow (GLA)
- Manchester (MAN)
- Nice (NCE)
- Shannon (SNN)
Last week, United announced the suspension of summer 2020 service to four other European cities:
- Palermo (PMO)
- Prague (PRG)
- Reykjavik (KEF)
- Stockholm (ARN)
United will load these schedule changes into the system over a four-week period:
Gradually loading these changes into the schedule allows us to avoid overloading our call centers and IT systems, so that we can deliver the best possible service to affected customers.
That the brings the total number of route suspensions to nine, with the next schedule change announcement coming this Friday.
Which United Transatlantic Routes Will Operate In May?
Thus far, all nine routes suspensions have been Atlantic destinations. United will re-introduce three new transatlantic flights next month, including Chicago – London, Newark – Amsterdam, and Washington – Frankfurt.

CONCLUSION
It’s sad to see these destinations suspended, but hardly surprising considering the current environment. 11 more suspensions to other international markets are coming, but we’ll have to wait and see which cuts are next.
I’m a bit surprised to see AMS (not a *A hub) on the list opposed to MUC or Zurich. But there must be sufficient traffic to AMS. If I recall United started SFO-AMS recently.
People probably want to get high in Ams after all this stress and see the tulips.
I’m wondering if BRU and CDG will get cut back at some point. They already were for May, but still on offer for June. Combining flights into FRA and then connecting would seem to make a lot of sense.
