Fancy a taco or barbecue chicken sandwich on your next flight? United’s latest buy-on-board menu includes a duo of comfort food favorites.

Starting in May (that’s tomorrow), United’s latest buy-on-board menu will include egg and chicken chorizo (as if that makes it much healthier…) chorizo tacos on breakfast flights over 3.5 hours in the USA. On lunch and dinner over 3.5 hours, a new barbecue chicken sandwich will be offered. Details and pricing below.

Free Cocktail in EconomyPlus on Premium Transcontinental Flights

United is adding a whiskey bourbon Old Fashioned to its onboard cocktail menu on premium transcontinental flights. This is “served with a classic orange rind garnish” and will be complimentary to both business class and EconomyPlus passengers. United already offers complimentary meals to EconomyPlus passengers on the following domestic routes:

  • San Francisco ⇄ Newark
  • San Francisco ⇄ Boston
  • Los Angeles ⇄ Newark

Ghirardelli Sundae Toppings in Business Class

Finally, customers seated in United Business can enjoy Ghirardelli sundae toppings on premium transcontinental flights.

Toppings include:

  • Barista Dark Chocolate Mini Chips
  • Ghirardelli Hot Fudge sauce
  • Ghirardelli Caramel sauce
  • Barista Caramel Flavored Mini Chips

CONCLUSION

The last time I had tacos on a plane was on a United flight from Mexico City to Washington Dulles in 2009. The tacos were tasty, but pathetically small:

These breakfast tacos look great. I don’t mean to be the perennial United fanboy, but must once again give United credit for a superior BOB menu in the USA.

It’s good, but United seems to be continuing their pattern of improving BOB while cutting back significantly on domestic first.

“New Belgium” is the brewery, and their Citradelic tangerine IPA is awesome! That’s a great addition. The tacos and BBQ chicken sandwich sound good, too, but both look and sound like they have a real potential for being messy choices for dining on board.

The tacos look good, but I probably would never order that on an airplane since they look so messy. All you need is for some sauce or meat to fall out and right onto your shirt or pants, leaving a big stain. I guess that can happen with a lot of foods, but I think the potential is higher with a taco.

I sure hope those tacos are soft shell, not hard shell. Getting hard shell tacos to crisp properly on an airplane will be…challenging, and there are few things in life more brutal than soggy/stale hard tacos.

Anyway, I’d have to concur with MHA and YYZFlyer. As someone so prone to, um, taco mishaps that I’ll only eat them at home, I’m not sure they’re the best meal choice in the cozy confines of coach. Though they do look pretty good.

I don’t think the chorizo is being made from chicken for “health” reasons, I think a larger subset of passengers are willing to consume tacos made from chicken as opposed to pork or beef.

Had them both, I liked them.
