United Airlines wants to send you to Tahiti in business class, put you up in nice hotels, and give you some spending money…if you work hard enough.
It’s a contest, but one of the best ones I have seen lately from an airline. United Airlines is commencing service between San Francisco and Tahiti at the end of October. In partnership with Project: Time Off, it will award one winner the trip of a lifetime.
The prize includes:
- Roundtrip airfare from your hometown to Tahiti (through San Francisco) for two in business class
- 3-night stay at the Intercontinental Tahiti Resort and Spa
- 2-night stay at the Intercontinental Moorea Resort and Spa
- 2-night stay at the Maitai Rangiora
- Transportation between the islands
- Choice of excursions in Tahiti and Moorea
- $2,000 prepaid card for meals and other expenses
I’m impressed.
At least the stated purpose behind this contest it raise awareness about taking vacation days.
Toby Enqvist, United’s Chief Customer Officer, stated:
With the unofficial end to summer this past weekend, it’s disheartening to think that so many Americans won’t have had a chance to use vacation days and get time away from the daily grind to experience something different. This is why we’re so excited about this contest – it presents the opportunity for the deserving winner to experience some of the most relaxing scenery in the world in Tahiti.
But United has a great ulterior motive as well: if you use more of your vacation days, you are more likely to fly places…
You can enter the contest here. Entering is easy:
- Identify someone who you believe deserves Time Off in Tahiti.
- Submit your entry in 300 words or less.
- United will judge entries in partnership with Project: Time Off.
The contest is only open to U.S. residents and has a taxable value of $21,235.
CONCLUSION
I’ll say this about vacations: I agree with Project: Time Off that they are absolutely necessary, producing better work performance and more productivity. But I’ll also admit I haven’t taken a single true vacation day this year. I always chalk it up to doing what I love for work. Maybe I need to enter this contest…

There’s too much capacity and prices are too high once you get there for the avg American. United is not going to keep this route for long.
Flight attendant must win this contest. They work very very hard. They are safety officer but also bring in passengers meals, clean up trash, and other hard working activities. They do a lot of menial jobs for their high education.
But soldiers work harder…..
Lol @ taxable value of $21,235, isn’t that like $6k worth of taxes just for a “free” vaca? Why don’t united just give the winner a bunch of miles and call it a day.
