Someone shared with me a brief yet touching note from United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz to employees commemorating Mother’s Day today.
Dear United family,
Our moms are the bedrock of our families. They keep us together, they give us strength and they love us unconditionally. And that is also true of our larger United family. We can never repay the debt we have to our mothers, but we can relay our gratitude. So I hope we all take this day to thank our moms for what they do for us each and every day – and for making us who we are.
So, to all of our United moms: Have a wonderful day and thank you for all you do to keep us flying together as a United family. Also, to all the spouses, children and friends: Thank you for sharing your extraordinary mothers with us as they put in the long hours and late nights – often far away from home – to make sure we fly with heart.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Warmly,
Oscar
A very simple, yet very fitting note for this day. Indeed, there will be many mothers separated from their spouses and children today on flights around the world. Unlike Christmas or Thanksgiving, this is not a real “holiday” with bonus pay, so there is not even an additional financial incentive to work today.
Last month I flew from Newark to Rome on United and sat in an exit row seat across from a crewmember who was bringing her daughter to Italy for a week. Those non-rev perks are the one thing that would make me want to work for an airline. Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be spent away from family if you can bring them all with you!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers at United. As a loyal customer, I appreciate you.
Happy mother’s day to United mom’s and especially the moms in corporate who decided that it was ok to separate families in Basic Economy (no it isn’t cheaper then regular economy).
Ps. Please wait til Monday to drag mothers off planes or make them per in a cup.
Love, Oscat
