United Airlines Extends Travel Waiver To June 30th

United Change Fee Waiver

United Airlines has matched American and Delta by extending its change fee waiver another month, now through June 30, 2020.

In a memo to employees, United CEO Scott Kirby mentioned that demand for travel was slowly returning:

“There are tough times ahead. But there are also glimmers of hope – our schedule is expected to be down 75 percent in July, a slight improvement over May and June. While we can’t quite see the light at the end of the tunnel yet, it’s not pitch black in here anymore.”

Even so, demand remains significantly depressed versus the same period last year and United is extending its flexible ticket policy another month to encourage more advance ticket purchasing.

All tickets purchased on or after March 3rd are fully flexible, even the cheapest “non-refundable” tickets. While you won’t pay a change fee, you will pay any difference in fare. Meanwhile, all tickets purchased prior to March 3rd can be changed for free, but only through the end of June and only for travel through December 31, 2020.

Tickets purchased on/before March 2

  • Change fees are waived for travel between June 1 and December 31, 2020
  • Changes or cancellations must be made by June 30.

Tickets purchased on/after March 3

  • There are no change fees for new tickets purchased by June 30

United Airlines Award Fee Redeposit Waiver

For those traveling using miles, United will waive redeposit fees through June 30th:

We will continue to waive redeposit fees on award tickets with travel departing on or before June 30.

Note, this only applies for travel commencing on or before the last day of June.

CONCLUSION

Airlines are seeing improvements in future bookings, but still not to the level where they are comfortable enforcing strict ticketing rules. United is joining American and Delta in waiving all change fees for at least another month.

Will you buy a future United ticket before June 30th?

United doesn’t give a damn about their front line employees or their former or future customers. United Airlines main concern is profit over safety and what strategy is best to sway public trust to help the airline to achieve that goal. United cancelled thousands of flights, and received stimulas Government money but did not refund money to the customers who needed it to pay bills. The law said Airlines are supposed to refund ticket money when the Airline cancels flights. United screwed their customers and are going to screw their employees in October….
