The butt of many jokes for many years, United Airlines is retiring its (in)famous pre-arrival premium class meals on transatlantic westbound flights.
Why does this merit a post? Because we’ve been served something like this for five years, with no exception–
As reported on Flyertalk, the hot sandwich/wrap/burrito has been replaced with two cold options, such as a cheese plate (going back to legacy United days) or grilled salmon. Here’s a menu from a flight from Milan to Newark yesterday:
UA969 MXP-EWR
Prior to arrival
Grilled Salmon
Soba noodle salad and teriyaki sauceCheese and Charcuterie Plate
Grapes, caramelized onion chutney and crackers
I won’t criticize or praise it until I have sampled it, but the old wraps were not befitting of first class and the change is welcome.
Food really mediocre in united business 2 days ago IAD – FRA. I asked for the salmon with crab meat option and they were out of it because “everyone wanted it”. They had started with only 8 servings for a packed 8-across business cabin with 8 rows or so. I wound up with a chicken in a tamale thing with what may have been potato croquettes that was Chi Chi’s caliber. Also, the beds were a little short and were coffin width – you couldn’t really roll over. Almost dreading return from LHR in a few weeks.
I hesitantly sampled the Salmon soba noodle salad pre arrival meal last week FRA – IAD and it was DELICIOUS!! One of best flight meals ever – in fact I’ve been craving it and searching for recipe ever since with no luck! Any ideas on where to find? In flight service was wonderful as well.
