United Airlines Adds Four New International Routes From LAX

United will begin new nonstop service between Los Angeles and:

  • Belize
    • Belize City
  • Mexico
    • Cozumel
    • Manzanillo
    • Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa

All service will operate 1x weekly during the winter season. Tickets are already on sale.

Alberto Diaz, United’s Director of Airport Operations in Los Angeles, noted:

“Throughout the pandemic, United has consistently been driven by data and adjusting its schedule to where customers want to go. Over the last few months, we’ve seen solid demand from our customers in Los Angeles to reunite with their friends and relatives in Latin America or escape to warm-weather destinations where they are still able to socially distance. These new routes and increased service to destinations in Mexico and Central America highlight the continued expansion of our network and build upon our strong presence in the region, as well as solidify our confidence in Los Angeles as a growth market.”

These new routes build upon additional new LAX routes announced last month.

A United spokesperson added that United is “operating nine more international nonstop routes from Los Angeles than in 2019, demonstrating our commitment to our LAX hub.”

CONCLUSION

I’m plotting out a trip to four countries for 2021 (once a vaccine is available): Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. I had planed to go via Houston but it looks like I’l be able to fly into and out of LAX, which is great news for me. More importantly than my leisure travels, these new routes will link families who have been separated far too long due to the pandemic.

Are you looking forward to any of the new United Airlines international routes from LAX?

So many Mexicans in the US already, time to annex mexico and add it as US states.

It will bring law and order to mexico and culture to USA.

Happy that UA sees opportunity. Once we feel safe we will be on international flights. Really happy the airline infrastructure looks like it’ll be there out of LAX when we are ready. And glad UA may wake up to LAX being an important hub as it used to be.

What is the purpose of adding 1 weekly service to a new city? It’s not convenient and would assume most people would have to stay 7 days for the return flight? What strategy am I missing?

Surprised Cabo gets less service during the winter than during the summer.
