Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and one of my favorite breakfast dishes happens to be an airline meal. Now it is available even in economy class.
United Airlines has offered a Southwestern omelets for a over a year now in premium cabins. It pops up occasionally on domestic flights and has been the pre-arrival egg dish usually once every third month on longhaul flights out of the USA.
The omelet contains pepper jack cheese, black beans, corn, and roasted peppers. It is served with salsa, chicken sausage and a roasted potato medley.
What I like about it is that is has a great kick–the salsa and cheese are spicy and I’d rate this as as something I would order in a restaurant or make at home.
Now it will be available even when I travel in economy class! United’s November buy-on-board menu for domestic flights includes the Southwestern-style omelet, in exactly the same form as it is served in premium cabins. It will cost $9.99.
United Airlines offers decent buy-on-board food on its domestic flights, with great hot options including pizza and cheeseburgers. I appreciate the new breakfast option and hope to try it out on my next flight…whether served on a plate in first class or in a plastic container in economy.
