Military Veteran Goes on Violent Rampage At Miami Airport, Assaults American Airlines Staff

A sad story from Miami, where a troubled U.S. veteran went on a violent rampage on Friday evening, attacking his girlfriend, American Airlines staff, and the gate itself.

Another Violent Rampage At Miami Airport, Including Attack On American Airlines Staff

Horrific video of the encounter went viral over the weekend, though only now are are we learning more details about what caused the incident and the identity of the aggressor.

Here is what we now know about the incident:

  • Before the incident, the man got into a verbal confrontation with his girlfriend which turned physical
  • He chased her into the women’s restroom
  • Other passengers in the gate area noted the man was intoxicated
  • With his erratic behavior and intoxication noted, American Airlines denied him boarding
  • The man responded by attacking an American employee, walking away and returning several times
  • At one point the man picked up a metal pole used to separate lines at Gate D23 and swung it at American Airlines staff
  • The man also spewed obscene language and hurled racial epithets
  • Police were called, but the man walked away (kicking a “wet floor’ sign as he did)
  • He was later apprehended at baggage claim and taken away on a stretcher
  • He was taken to a hospital for mental evaluation and tremens
  • Miami police later said the man was a military veteran going through a personal crisis

This incident involved a military veteran in crisis. Our Airport District officers immediately responded to the call by airport staff and transported him to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. The MDPD is committed to the safety of all our residents and visitors.

An American Airlines spokesperson noted:

“When traveling with us, we expect all customers to follow our policies and we will not tolerate violence of any kind toward our team members. We thank our MIA team for their quick action and professionalism to ensure the safety of our customers and fellow team members.”

CONCLUSION

Without dismissing in any way the mental challenges this man may be facing, this incident marks another regrettable chapter in our Miami Airport Fight Club series. Summer 2021 has been littered with similar stories from Miami, making it ground zero in the summer of passenger misbehavior.

A drunk mind speaks a sober heart.

Typical behavior that we’ve come to expect from toxic, neckbearded, credulous, dimwitted, “alpha” garbage.

Anyone think that had the “gentleman” been African-American that he would have been carried out on a stretcher?

    I don’t.

No, he would have been shot and or dragged out of the airport in some inhumane manner before he’s thrown into the back of a van with no windows. And the excuse for his behavior would not have been ‘a personal crisis’, it would have been that he was ‘under the influence of unknown substances’.

Florida again….nothing else to say. Anyone want to guess where they were flying to in Texas?

This reputation issue is only going to get worse. Crazy and diseased, that’s FL.

I know tourism numbers are up now, but that’s mostly because of pent up demand that doesn’t have many places to go. Once we’re really on the tail end of this thing and people have travel options, I expect FL is going to take a hit. I certainly have no plans on visiting anytime soon and I was a pretty regular FLL visitor pre pandemic.

Why are these rage incidents always occur at or on an aircraft headed to or from an airport in Florida? Blame DeSantis? Lol.

What exactly does “military veteran” have to do with his criminal behavior? Is his behavior to be somehow just laughed off and excused? He was in the Army……cool. lots of people are/were.

No, it is just another datapoint and may explain (not excuse) why he acted in the way he did.

Wow! shocked at all the insensitivity in this era of woke. I don’t see anything at all funny in any of this. I’s tragic for all involved regardless of race and geographical location. If you find this entertaining, then you have no room to judge this individual. The reason being a veteran matters is that if this former member of our armed forces saw combat he could potentially have PTSD, which though not as visible can be every bit as debilitating and life wrecking as physical injuries. Considering CNN has a captive audience in most airports and what is going on in the world especially Afghanistan, it is entirely possible the man was triggered by something hew saw on the television in the gate area, Not that PTSD or most mental illness absolves one from a personal or legal responsibility for their actions. That said a little compassion for what you don’t know may be going on in someone’s head and/or life is in short order these days. We’d all do better to show some empathy and extend grace to others.
