I recently spent a few minutes in the American Airlines Admirals Club in Los Angeles (LAX) and want to provide a brief update to my existing review.
The last time I published a review of this lounge was during the pandemic. While the facilities are unchanged, the food has improved. The individually-packaged items are gone and a full buffet is back. I only spent about 20 minutes in the lounge before boarding my early-morning flight to Charlotte, but I did appreciate the breakfast spread, which included:
- Roasted tomato omelets (“egg folds” as AA called them)
- Applewood smoked bacon
- Oatmeal
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Yogurt
- Fruit (blueberries, strawberries)
- Cereal
- Smoked salmon
- Baked goods
- Whole fruit
I do not fast when I travel and was happy to sample some eggs and berries. Certainly, the eggs were powdered, but they tasted like an airplane omelet…and I quite like that.
The coffee was not great (I’m not a big La Colombe fan), but it also wasn’t bad.
As for the rest of the lounge, it was quite crowded for 5:15 am, but has not changed from my review below.
Currently, the lounge is open daily from 4:30 am to 1:00 am and is located across from gate 40 in Terminal 4.
My original review, from November 7, 2020, is below.
While the American Airlines Admirals Club at Los Angeles International Airport has scaled back amenities during the pandemic, you can still enjoy a quiet place to relax and decent snack prior to your flight.

Location + Hours + Access
The lounge is located in Terminal 4 near gate 40. It is open daily from 4:30am to 1:00am. There are many ways to access the lounge, including:
- AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro and Platinum members traveling internationally
- oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members
- Qualifying first and business class passengers
- international
- LAX – JFK
- LAX – MIA (only on Boeing 777-300 flights)
- Membership
- Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard
- One day pass holders ($59)
- Military
Even with membership, you must be traveling on an American Airlines, Alaska, or oneworld flight in order to enter.
Pandemic Precautions
After checking in downstairs, you will head upstairs and be greeted by a lounge agent, who will escort you to your seat…there is no self-seating right now. The lounge is doing a great job in promoting distancing, so don’t be concerned about sitting directly next to a stranger.
Masks are required at all times except for eating and drinking.
All food is individually packaged and only disposable plate, bowls, cups, glasses, and utensils are in use.
Seating
As I mentioned above, you’ll be seated by lounge staff. The lounge is divided into two seating area separated by a bar in the middle. The main area included chairs and floor-to-ceiling windows with great views of the tarmac.
Around the corner from the bar is a “quiet area” that includes a TV room (that’s a bit ironic) adjacent to it. With the exception of one guy watching college sports, this entire wing of the lounge was empty.
Food + Drink
Expect modified food and drink during the pandemic. Breakfast selections included:
- yogurt
- cereal
- hard boiled eggs
- fruit
- oatmeal
- muffins
- bagels
Around 11:00am, the transition to lunch occurred. Lunch selections included:
- cubed cheddar cheese
- pasta salad
- hummus
- carrots
In the bar area, whole fruit, savory and sweet snacks, and desserts like cookies and jelly beans were available.
You an also purchase meals if you are looking for something more substantial. Selections included sandwiches, salads, and chicken nuggets.
On the way out, you are encouraged to take a little snack box for your flight or for the road.
The full bar is also open with a selection of beer, wine, and spirits available for purchase.
Restrooms + Showers
Restrooms and showers are available. Some lounges have suspended shower use during the pandemic, but showers are still available in this lounge.
CONCLUSION
This is currently the only AA lounge (and only oneworld lounge) open at LAX. American has two additional Admirals Club at LAX but both are closed, as it the oneworld business and Qantas First Class lounges in the nearby Bradley Terminal. While not exactly luxurious, this lounge is appreciated versus no lounge at all.

Hawaiian Airlines flights with Admirals Club membership doesn’t qualify for access right?
Correct.
What are “harbored eggs”? Voice rec gone amuck?
Los Angles is a sanctuary city! 😉
Centurion figured out how to have non prepackaged food….AA Flagship can’t?
Seems like Amex is the one carrying the flag.
Well, AA will sell you meals…
Most of the pictures are empty of people. What conclusions can be drawn?
Not much, in this case. I deliberately waited for a lull to take these pictures. The lounge was fairly filled during my ~2hour visit.
I fly through PHX Skyharbor airport frequently and the Admirals clubs are never open. When can we expect those to return back to full service?
There should be one open in PHX
I thought they said they were bringing back hot food like mac and cheese back in August?
Is the lounge will be opened in LAX on this month September 2021? If so, which terminal? I’ll be flying at the end of this month and will be using my admiral pass for few hours before my connecting flight to DC.
Thank you,
Ms. Henny
it will be open – located in Terminal 4.
Been about 6 years since I’ve been to this lounge (was in the good LAX Flagship lounge 2 years ag0) and it seems to have improved in brightness and decor. Not stellar but not drab like before.
