Air Canada Restarts Tel Aviv Service from Montreal

Matthew Klint Posted onFebruary 13, 2017 4 Comments

Air Canada’s international expansion in Montreal continues, with news of a new seasonal route between Montreal and Tel Aviv starting in June. The carrier also announced plans to make its daily Toronto – Tel Aviv service year-around.

The new Montreal service will utilize an A330-300 aircraft with 27 lie-flat herringbone seats in business class, 21 Premium Economy seats and 244 seat in economy class. Service begins on June 22, 2017 and will run through October 16, 2017.

Thank Air Transat

Air Transat, a Canadian budget/leisure carrier, just announced its own Montreal to Tel Aviv service. The move by Air Canada to adds it own flight will greatly increase capacity on this route and likely lead to lower fares. Air Canada must figure better to suffer now then to be squeezed out of the Israel market by passengers in Montreal who do not wish to connect in Toronto.

CONCLUSION

The route is still subject to government approval but will be available for sale on Wednesday. This route last operated in 2002. I will be watching not only fares, but award space. It is possible we might see some saver award space in both economy and business class so keep an eye out.

Matthew, is there any reason to expect that Aeroplan saver award prices (& taxes) would be different on the YUL-TLV route than on, say, EWR-TLV, owing to different metal, and the Canada vs. US factor?

EWR-TLV on United will have no fuel surcharges — Air Canada’s flight not only has about $50 higher in taxes (Canada) but probably a fuel surcharges of around $450USD each-way. Bottom line, much more expensive than United ex-EWR.

    Matthew,
There is a reason that the service will be available only from June 22, 2017 and will run through October 16, 2017? What about November and December 2017?

Not sure if it is an issue of demand, but the Toronto flight is year-around.
