Review: Airspace Lounge New York JFK (Terminal 5)

While it’s great to have a lounge, about the only good thing I can say about the Airspace Lounge in JFK’s T5 is that the shower is nice. Well, maybe that’s not fair. The tap water is free.

I don’t mean to be facetious. Since JetBlue does not have a lounge of its own, the lounge is a welcome addition to those who may wish to shower before or after a flight. The bathroom is nice, with a large walk-in shower–

a bathroom with a mirror and sink

The lounge even provide a specially branded amenity kit–

a small black bag with a blue and white bag with small bottles of toiletries and toothpaste

But best of all is the fully tricked-out Toto toilet. Nothing like a heated toilet seat!

Lounge access is granted to American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders–no PriortyPass card necessary (or accepted).

Upon entering the lounge, you are given a debit card with $10 in food/beverage credit on it. The menu is limited and frankly of poor quality, but your credit is enough for a snack or drink (not necessarily both).

a plate of cheese and crackers

a glass of milk with a straw

My favorite thing on the menu is a greasy breakfast sandwich similar to a egg McMuffin. Maybe that says it all.

In terms of free food/drink, tea, filter coffee from Coffee Bean, and tap water is available. A cocktail mix is also available.

a bowl of fruit next to a blender

a group of coffee machines

a wooden box with bags of tea

As for seating, the lounge tends to get crowded during the afternoon and early evening, but head for the “conference room” (last picture) and you may be left alone for awhile.

During our layover in New York, Ben and I had the room to ourselves for several hours. Internet works fairly well using the airport’s network.

Finally, a separate unisex bathroom is available.

CONCLUSION

It’s not my favorite lounge, but a great place for a shower. While there are much better dining options inside the terminal, you can also receive a free snack (up to $10) while in the lounge.
