On Prime Day, I’m Not Feeling The Love From Amazon….

I set out to write a post hawking the products I use most via my Amazon affiliate links, but I’m not seeing the sale pricing this year that I did last year. So I’ll write this post a little differently.

Amazon Prime Day is nothing but a latter-day Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Rudolph was not part of the Christmas season until Montgomery Ward (a defunct nationwide department store and mail order catalogue for my millennial readers) created the character to sell more during the holiday season. In a sense, it’s an edifice to make consumers feel better about spending their money.

Here’s my Amazon linkInvalid request error occurred.. I’d love if you’d support the blog by making your Amazon purchases through me.

I’ll even recommend a trio of travel products below that I use on a near-daily basis.

But don’t get caught up in the hype. If you need something, great…maybe it is discounted. If you don’t, just relax…we’ll see better pricing come Cyber Monday, another creation of the e-commerce world.

Portable Chargers

My biggest nightmare is being on a longhaul flight without working power, so I’ve invested in an AC power bank from Omars. It’s $66.99 and includes a plug for my laptop as well as two USB ports. I’ve charged my phone and laptop at the same time and it still has not fully depleted the battery pack. Highly recommended.

If you just want a small pocket charger for your phone, I recommend the portable charger from Jackery. It’s very cheap  – only $19.99 – and works well for a quick charge. This works for iPhones and Samsung products.

Travel Adapters

I just picked up a new travel adapter and LOVE it. The Saunorch Universal International Travel Power Adapter is $19.99 and works very well in Europe and Asia. I was using an older one from Brookstone until recently that required changing plates based upon the country. My new one is far easier to use and works just as well. Best of all, it never falls out of an electrical outlet…a huge annoyance with some adapters.

My Search For Headphones

a black headphones with a white background

I hope I’m not going deaf, but I’m so sick of my Apple AirPods. If I am working out and some inconsiderate dotard has his music turned up, which is often, I cannot hear my music/lectures. It drives me crazy to have to strain to hear them. As far as I know, I’ve turned the sound settings up all the way and even changed to the equalizer to “Late Night” which helped a bit. But the sound is not sufficient. I clean them regularly, so it’s not like it’s accumulated ear wax that is the problem. So the only thing I am in the market for is new wireless headphone.

I never bought the Bose QuietComfort35 last year (I’m glad), because Bose has debuted the 700 series noise cancelling headphones which I probably will get this year.

But that doesn’t solve my need for workout headphones. Any suggestions?

CONCLUSION

I’m such a bad salesman when I don’t believe in the product…but at least you know I’m not going to push stuff on you that you don’t need. Have a great afternoon ahead and don’t succumb to the peer pressure!

Speaking of other people’s music, have you noticed how many just blast it over loudspeaker instead of using headphones or earbuds when they’re exercising or just walking around? (Not to mention conducting their loud and vapid conversations over speakerphone.) It’s very inconsiderate to the people around them.

    You are not very imaginative.

I’d like to point out that the Omars battery is rather enormous. I’ve got one and I think it’s kind of cool having that powerful of a pack but I absolutely would not travel with it unless there was something slightly out of the ordinary regarding electrical access on the trip. Otherwise there are plenty of battery packs with lots of juice but way smaller

The Jbl endurance peak or sony wh mx700 will work for a workout, the latter are nosie cancelling and they don’t fall out either.

Best portable chargers in my opinion are the ones from Anker. As for travel adapters the best ones are from Skross which can be found on electronic stores in major European airports. Here is my favorite https://www.skross.com/en/alpha

This may be a spelling error that you want to fix.

Matthew, some airports ban any portable charger with a capacity greater than 10,000 mAH from your carry on luggage. Especially in Asia. I have had mine confiscated at PVG. I also saw security personnel at Chinese airports confiscate generic powerbricks that were lacking proper labeling with regards to their capacity. So, be careful carrying those around in your carry ons.
