UPDATE: Video has emerged from onboard the American Airlines flight, showing the hair transplant passenger arguing with the police officer, refusing to get off, and eventually being led off in handcuffs.
A boisterous couple was thrown off an American Airlines flight in Miami after refusing to clean up blood from a recent hair transplant surgery. It seems to me this entire situation was totally unnecessary and avoidable with just a little bit of advance planning.
Couple Thrown Off American Airlines Flight Due To (Post Hair Transplant) Blood Dripping From Head
As you can see in the mugshot above, 27-year-old Eugenio Ernesto Hernandez-Garnier was recovering from a recent hair transplant surgery and trying to get home from Miami (MIA) to Las Vegas (LAS) on American Airlines.
Hair transplants of this type involve pulling hair–one follicle at a time and typically from the back of the head–and placing it in front. It’s a messy surgery and also a precise art form…the results are a bloodied head, sometimes for several days.
His head appeared to be dripping with blood and he was asked first to clean it up and and replace his bandages. But he responded that he did not have any new bandages…
So American Airlines asked him to step off the flight…to which he and his wife, 32-year-0ld Yusleydis Blanca Loyola, refused. His wife reportedly said, “If we can’t fly, no one else can either.”
Police were summoned and boarded the aircraft, asking the couple to step off. When they refused, they were handcuffed and forced off the plane.
The disruption delayed the flight overnight…
American Airlines Was Not Unreasonable Here
As someone who has fortunately not lost most of his hair yet, I’ve not had to seriously consider such a surgery (what a shame Prince William never did…), so I’m not sure why he could not place a hat or a turban on. Perhaps that isn’t permitted in the immediate hours/days after surgery.
These sorts of surgeries are popular in Turkey and whenever I fly through Istanbul Airpot I see men who look like this…also not wearing any head covering.
But living in vain LaLa Land, I know plenty of people who have had such procedures and I will say…hair is a big deal and these surgeries, when done well, can totally change someone’s physical appearance. And yet I also understand that American Airlines does not want blood dripping in its cabins.
The couple claimed that the blood was dried, but it does not look exactly dry in the mugshot. It’s not unreasonable to ask that fresh bandages be placed on bloody wounds…American Airlines seems quite justified here.
Shame on the couple for refusing to comply, creating a scene onboard, then delaying everyone by refusing to get off and forcing police to come nad remove them in handcuffs.
Those surgeries are not cheap, but I hope American Airlines sends them a far higher bill for the disruption they caused.
Could he have smeared his head with vaseline , and then stuck forty cotton balls on top ?
Funny you care so much about hair. I couldn’t care less. Still have mine but my kids once asked me if I was concerned in one day losing my hair and my answer was I would be glad in saving money with shampoo. There is no way I would ever go through a process of hair transplant. Never.
>Funny you care so much about hair. I couldn’t care less.
I mean, everyone else is still judging you. Gravity doesn’t stop because you close your eyes.
Exactly!
No one cares. Shave your head and move on with life.
He needs a bouffant cap, found at fast food places and hospitals
What makes a man attractive? Intelligence, confidence, humor, a nice smile and good manners. Physical appearance is nothing without the above. I had no idea that hair renewal could cause this kind of distress. And public bleeding is frowned upon everywhere.
Size matters too.
You’re a deep and intelligent woman, Maryland. Blessings.
Thank you.
Why is it always these guys
What do you mean by that
What do you mean by that?
AA pax to/from Miami. It’s always AA to/from MIA. Talk about a cursed itinerary.
Actually, it’s always MIA, but it’s usually Spirit Airlines. Whenever I see “Florida Woman”, “MIA”, and “bikini bottom”, I know its going to be a good one.
“IN the old days” Passenger Services would offer the man lunch and a up grade on a later flight. Additionally the airline should have help the man secure addition bandages. Today the answer is call the pol[ice.
(1) “IN the old days” Passenger Services would offer the man lunch and a up grade on a later flight. — Ha ha ha, NO!
(2) Additionally the airline should have help the man secure addition bandages. — One word: Biohazard!
(3) Today the answer is call the pol[ice. — With good reason.
Seriously? The guy shouldn’t have boarded an airplane if he wasn’t in proper condition to travel. The rest of the world doesn’t have to think of him because he chooses to get some hair procedure that leaves him bloody. Why don’t you go buy him lunch and get him some bandages? Put them on for him, too! And then the idiots want to delay everyone else on top of it? You sound like you’re part of the problem.
So they arrested someone for having a medical emergency and did not provide medical help?
Yes.
“We’re not equipped to handle you bleeding all over the place, please step off the plane”
“No”
“Ok we’re going to have to have the police do so”
It appears they asked him to deplane to attend to a medical issue that could not be deferred. He refused; police called. What’s the solution, if he won’t voluntarily fix the issue?
Medical emergency? You have to be kidding…
This wasn’t a medical emergency- it was a minor scheduled procedure and this couple decided that they didn’t have to show any respect for everyone else on the flight by covering open wounds. Like it or not, contagious diseases are front and center currently. I wouldn’t want to travel with someone dripping blood everywhere. This didn’t have to be an issue at all- a little basic decency was all the airline was expecting. These are just a couple of bottom feeders who wanted to make a scene.
Why was he allowed to board the plane in the first place only to be threatened with removal later on?
That’s not the correct take, I suggest from reading the above text. He was asked to solve a medical issue. He couldn’t/wouldn’t. He was asked to deplane to fix the issue or because he had not. He refused. Then, he was told to leave. He refused. Cops were called. I don’t see all those steps in the story, but suggest that is highly likely what happened.
Why was he allowed to board? The blleeding hadn’t escalated yet. Or, he hid it. Or, they didn’t notice. Regardless, even if the agents were “should we let him board,” but they let him, it doesn’t limit their right/necessity to deal with a person not medically qualified to fly.
Guy is a walking biohazard. He shouldn’t have been allowed to enter the airport or any other public place, never mind bleed all over an airplane and its passengers.
So classy these people.
Exactly. This guy knew (or should have known) that he was not ready to fly. He went for an elective vanity procedure. Fly when you’re healed or healthy enough to do so. This guy and his woman are inconsiderate, classless peasants and I’m delighted they were arrested.
Flight attendant: “Can I offer you a beverage?” Pax: “Yes, I’d like a vodka on the rocks with a splash of hepatitis please.”
Because of the possibility of exposing others on the flight to blood born diseases, he absolutely needed to deplane. I’m not sure of the post surgery instructions concerning hair transplants, but it seems odd that his head would be left uncovered anyway. With open wounds on his head, he would be at high risk of developing infection.
Why was he discharged from the medical facility where the procedure was performed with that much profuse bleeding? Was he not counseled on not immediately flying home to Las Vegas in case he needed to return to medical facility for side effects? Why Miami when LaLa Land is so much closer and has many qualified good plastic surgeons? Lastly, the self entitlement (“If we can’t fly, no one can either”) of Passengers today is totally out of hand. THEY WERE IN THE WRONG HERE! I wish transport companies would charge costs on disruptive people and if necessary take People to Court to send a message … if you’re going to f-ck around, you’re going to find out and it’s going to cost you.
High comedy.
Send him the bill for a clean up. You know who he is and is address. Maybe his CC is on file. Charge him.
Not surprised. MIA + AA = an open sewer of low life. I used to live in Miami. If I’ve been through that airport say 50 times, its been at least 50 times I’ve witnessed some type of barn-like, zoo/prison escapee type behavior.
Now make no mistake, any US airport will offer you rude, slovenly people, but MIA seems to have cornered the market on behavior closer to that of an escaped rabid animal.
Yeah, a bit over the top here. I loathe American Airlines, but am not completely indifferent to their situation. I’ve had that procedure done, so, yes, don’t belittle it. If he’d had brain surgery to remove a cancerous lump, he shouldn’t be going out in public immediately after with the surgical cuts still oozing blood.
I wore a dressing cap on my head for several days, and that was in India. There were jerks, and should have done what was needed to make others feel comfortable as they would expect others to have done.
He should have gone for the tattoo hair look which is basically the same look he has now . It is probably cheaper and less messy.
Gross.
