We hosted an open house at our Willis Tower headquarters for DNC attendees, including those from our hub cities, to give them insight into the latest happenings at United Airlines.
A mysteriously deleted tweet shows United Airlines hosting a reception at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago earlier this week in which United CEO Scott Kirby was present.

In a now-deleted tweet, perhaps because she called United CEO Kirby “John Kirby” instead of “Scott Kirby” (John Kirby is a retired United States Navy rear admiral serving as White House National Security Communications Advisor), Breed shares a couple of pictures from the United reception. Then again, Scott Kirby is also John Kirby…Scott is his middle name. So she technically did not make an error.
Whatever Kirby’s personal politics may be, United as a company tends to lean left with its DEI, climate, and LGBTQI+ initiatives. That doesn’t mean that United has ever seen a corporate tax cut or reduction in red tape that it won’t support…
We were curious if United Airlines hosted a reception at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and asked United’s press team, but Live And Let’s Fly received no response. The lack of GOP reception would not necessarily suggest political preference considering United’s World Headquarters are in Chicago (i.e. more a geographical issue than a political issue), but the reception does show how intermingled airlines are with politicians.
Indeed, if Kirby is correct in his conviction that United Airlines is “too big to fail” he will still need the support of lawmakers to push through taxpayer-funded largesse.

If I were Kirby, I’d be chumming it up with every politician I could shake hands with…even the enemy you know is better than the enemy you don’t know. I don’t blame him.

In a deleted tweet, San Francisco Mayor London Breed shared pictures from a reception held by United Airlines at the Democratic National Convention. It’s no surprise that United Airlines is trying to warm up to politicians…it’s what heavily-regulated airlines do.
Could be because it was held at the United Center…
Perhaps the reception was at the DNC merely because of UAL’s “Chicago” headquarters location ?
That’s my guess .
Similar for Hawaiian Airlines to have a reception in Honolulu , if there was a convention at HNL ?

I know for a fact United had a presence at the GOPs party in Milwaukee. Don’t know if they had any receptions but I can certainly find out. I know it’s politics run left of center and UAL supports the democrats at it highest levels.

Most of UA’s operations are in large cities, and for the most part those tend to lean blue. I’m not sure why this is surprising. ORD/LAX/SFO/EWR/DEN are all left-leaning, they know who their customer base is and who to appeal to. UA will back whoever lines their pockets, which in this case are the liberals.

That’s hilarious considering that the stock market is at a record high (after Trump predicted that Biden would “destroy” it), that unemployment is near record low, and the U.S. GDP is the strongest of any developed nation on earth. Post-Covid inflation was a global phenomenon, and the U.S. is doing better than any of our allies in that regard. If your PERSONAL economic situation is not good, that literally has nothing to do with the economic health of the country.
