My Day In An Amsterdam Coffee House (Not Coffee Shop)

I’ve been in Amsterdam for over a week and staying my usual hotel, the Hyatt Regency. While I love almost everything about that hotel, the coffee is lacking. Thus, I set out in search of great coffee during a quiet morning earlier this week.

Amsterdam is certainly famous for its coffee shops, which specialize in pot and not coffee, but I figured a leading European metroplis had to have some good coffee.

Thankfully, I did not have to go far. Just two blocks away from the hotel I found a superb coffee house / bakery called Bakhuys.

It was Third Wave style and judging by the crowds, it looked like I found a great spot.

I ordered a cappuccino and it was promptly made.

The moment of truth arrived. Had I found good coffee or bad? The coffee was excellent.

I sat there for a couple hours enjoying my work, enjoying the coffee, and thankful for the simple things in life.

CONCLUSION

Coffee Shops in Amsterdam offer both pot and coffee. Thankfully, coffee houses offer coffee but no pot. Check out Bakhuis next time you’re in Amsterdam. I certainly will be be back.

When I was young I always wanted to go get lit in an Amsterdam coffee shop. Now that weed is legal from San Diego to Barrow on the west coast I have no desire to get high.

Right around the corner from my houseboat. 2 minute walk. Super coffee and bread. 5 minute walk to the coffee shop.
