Couple “Bum-Rushed” Onto Frontier Airlines Flight, Refused To Get Off

Matthew Klint Posted onNovember 25, 2022December 8, 2023 39 Comments

The old “pretend you’re sleeping” trick may work with four-year-olds, but it won’t work for grown adults who tried to turn their aggression back around toward the airline and their fellow passengers on a Frontier Airlines flight.

“Tired” Couple “Bum-Rushed” Onto Frontier Airlines Flight Then Refused To Get Off When Confronted

In a video first posted on TikTok entitled, “This couple bum-rushed through bag measuring and boarding pass scanning and ran onboard,” a commotion is observed onboard. Apparently, the two boarded the flight without scanning their boarding pass or letting gate agents inspect their carry-on items.

Two gate agents from Frontier Airlines are speaking to the couple, who first seems to defend themselves, then begin ignoring the ground staff by pretending they are sleeping.

One gate agent warns, “You guys need to come out or we’re gonna need to deplane the entire plane.”

The response from these two? “If we get off, y’all getting off with us too.”

Fellow passengers erupt in anger and begin cursing out the couple and admonishing them to get off the plane. They refuse.

Law enforcement boards the aircraft and here’s where the story takes an odd turn.

Responding to repeated calls to get off the aircraft, the couple finally “wake up” in a fit of anger, yelling:

“We paid for our ticket just like y’all. We paid just like y’all. I’m not getting off the plane.

“You understand? We’re tired! We’ve been flying for 20 mother***ing hours with our money. You don’t know what the **** we’ve been through.

“And we got to this airport two hours early. We’re tired. We’re not going nowhere.”

All other passengers were escorted off the plane and then the couple was removed. The flight departed two hours late.

Here’s the video and there is bad language in it:

https://liveandletsfly.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Couple-22Bum-Rushed22-Onto-Frontier-Airlines-Flight.mp4

I realize that tempers get frayed, especially during the holidays, but it seems to me this couple has no defense for rushing onboard, ostensibly to avoid carry-on fees. You cannot get more childish than pretending to be sleeping.

CONCLUSION

This, folks, is why I won’t buy a Frontier Pass. It may be good for the blogging business, but I have no desire to deal with stuff like that when I fly. And as for this couple, I hope their selfish action will result in some painful financial consequences and a ban from ever setting foot on a Frontier Airlines flight again.

Where was this? What was the route? What exactly happened? Why did the couple have to get off? I’m very confused what’s going on here. What does “bum-rush” mean? From what I can tell, it seems like these people tried to avoid having to pay some fee?

      Bum-rush:

      https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=bum-rush

Route not specified, or I would have mentioned it. The couple was forced to get off for failing to scan their boarding pass or have their carry-on items inspected. I did mention that…

It isn’t clear what happened, beyond that. I still thought it was worth covering.

The lack of respect for authority is getting out of hand, the FAA need to ban anyone from flying for 6-12 months from flying any airlines until then these outburst will continue.

Agree that bans need to start happening but it needs to be years, not months. I feel like the people who are causing most of the issues are new or occasional travelers who think they can bully flight crews and have zero concept of the consequences to other travelers.

What in the world does this have to do with Frontier as an airline? This could have happened on any airline. I fly Frontier and other budget airlines all the time, and the experience is indistinguishable from that of the old major companies.

Why are you too cowardly to just admit you’re a racist? What is the point of thinly veiled language when we can all see right through it? You probably still say “Let’s Go Brandon” because you’re too frightened to say what you mean. How lazy and juvenile of you.

Exactly. I started reading about the couple’s antics, and immediately had an image of them in my mind. Saw the photo, and had my mental image 100% confirmed. Watching the video was like reliving a memory of the people I’d already imagined. Funny how that works.

Jerks. Hopefully hit with fines and bans, which should extend to all airlines not just Frontier.
As for the author stating this sort of behaviour is why he won’t take a Frontier Pass…….it can and does happen on other airlines.

I would have wanted to check their tickets. Frontier does not have a flight that last for 20 hours. Maybe Qantas or Singapore Airlines has a flight for 20 hours but if you act like those couple it doesn’t seem like they can afford a 20 hour trip. They should have taken a Grayhound Bus.

How can people think this will end well. What do they think the FA will say? “Oh, sorry bother you, we didn’t realize you wanted to be here.” Noooooo… They will lose and they will be tossed off the plane. EVERY TIME. Idiots.

So you believe that giving states the power to blackmail airlines would have done anything more than strangle the industry and prevent us from having the ability to travel across the country like we do now? No more direct flights. Instead, every flight would include a layover in a state that has negotiated with another state for exhorbitante fees. Yes, we’d only be flying with the ‘elite’. Definitely.

In my opinion and I base my opinion on my personal experience with the black culture I find that black African-Americans began screaming wildly and waving their arms and doing the gang stuff and they know it works because the people back away, they back off! I worked in maximum security prisons and I experienced this all the time until I developed a reputation where I would listen to every screaming word you said because somewhere in what you have said lies the problem. I never backed away I never back down I just listened. When I decide and by the way if you are an officer on a maximum security cell block it is your decision as you have the last word in any inmate discussion, that I understood the problem they were experiencing I would repeat that back to them and ask if I was correct and if they said yes I make my move to end the conversation by telling them since this problem is now understood I need you to stop yelling and waving your hands wildly give me time to fix this problem if they continue yelling I call for backup and I shut it down completely. We always have the last word and the last Act. There are people in every culture that you cannot reasonably speak to they will yell and scream their rage at you knowing that mostly and their experience people back away and back down but working in a Maximum Security Prison in my opinion it was 85% black inmates that would behave this way. Once you establish what the problem is and they understand what the problem is and they refuse to obey commands you must shut them down you cannot argue with them it’s not their mindset to negotiate. They knew already what they had done wrong and now they were being told to leave the plane. You can’t argue with them so go ahead and Deport the plane once you have explained to them it will happen if you don’t leave. Next bring the police in and taser them and put cuffs on them and take them directly non-stop to jail. At some point you will see the expression on their face that looks exactly like a deer caught in headlights because they are not accustomed to having people ignore their ranting and raving and screaming and yelling and clearing the area for proper consequences such as a taser and the police and handcuffs and jail they are like a deer caught in headlights. To do anything else or anything less than this, then you create your own problem and you must deal with it it’s their culture you’re fighting and it’s crippled and it’s violent and quite obviously mentally ill.

When handling criminals and such, that’s another matter of course. I read a book “The Like Switch” by an FBI agent who proposed one way to deal with difficult customers is to do what you say: Be quiet and listen intently. Repeat back to them what they said and confirm that you heard it. Empathize “I appreciate how you feel” and repeat back their gripes to them to show it was heard. Then state they have a choice and offer them the better choice first: “You can scan your ticket, pay your baggage fees, and be on your way (even if this is a lie) OR I’m going to leave and bring in the marshall and they’ll empty the plane and then you’ll be on the no-fly list and you’ll be tired and probably worse off. ”

When ask them: “Which do you desire?”

This gives them the option to make a choice and feel empowered (even if it’s out of a dichotomy of choices you just provided, see The Princess Bride). You don’t TELL them what to do, you give them a choice to do it or not and they implicitly ACCEPT the consequences.

In my career in customer service (corporate to corporate) I’ve learned to use this technique and in most cases it results in the customer complying and even being grateful for having felt heard.

Granted, with criminals and the mentally ill, mileage may vary.

Maybe Frontier needs to have a better system to prevent people from boarding the flight without proper procedure.
Southwest scans every ticket to make sure it is for the correct flight and I have never seen a person get on a Southwest flight and have to be asked to leave after boarding. I cannot say that for some other Airlines.
If this couple’s flight to the same destination was delayed, and they were rushed onto the wrong flight to the same destination I can understand why they wanted to stay.
This article should not have posted without the full story.

ENOUGH of these behaviors! The Airlines and FAA need to take a “no holds barred” stance on this foolishness and bar the perpetrators from flying ANY airline for a MINIMUM OF 5 YEARS and MEAN IT! Maybe these fools will think twice before engaging in such behaviors
