Cathay Pacific has several excellent lounges at its Hong Kong hub. This review focuses on The Wing Business Class Lounge, which offers an excellent assortment of food and beverage options and comfortable seating.

Cathay Pacific The Wing Business Class Lounge Hong Kong Review (HKG)

I arrived several hours before my Cathay Pacific flight to Amsterdam to sample every Cathay Pacific Business Class lounge. My first stop was The Wing.

Hours + Access + Location

Access is reserved for oneworld sapphire and emerald status holders or business class passengers traveling on a oneworld carrier. You are permitted one guest if entering via status or no guests if entering via ticket class of service. Cathay Pacific Silver Status holders flying on a Cathay-marketed and operated flight also have access.

The Wing is open from 5:30 am to 12:30 am and is located near the security checkpoint and passport control in terminal 1 (level 6) near gate 2. After checking in, you can take the stairs or an elevator up to the lounge.

Seating

Upstairs, the lounge is divided into a first class (currently closed for refurbishment) and business class area. On the business class side, there is a large seating area, which was moderately crowded, featuring couches and chairs.

In the rear of the lounge (after walking through the dining area), there is more seating which was less crowded.

Food + Drinks

The centerpiece of the lounge is “the noodle bar,” which offers soup, noodles, and dim sum made-to-order. There’s also plenty of seating in this area and it was empty during my visit.

Beyond the noodle bar is “The Coffee Loft” which features coffee and tea made-to-order (and has a fancy La Marzocco machine). Sandwiches, pastries, and other sweet treats are available here.

Back in the main seating room, there is a full bar made of marble called “The Long Bar” (menu below) and buffet with Western items including:

  • spicy tortilla soup
  • beef meatballs
  • oven-roasted vegetables
  • braised Italian sausage
  • pasta arrabbiata
  • various salads

Showers + Restrooms

Washrooms have toilets, but the business class side of this lounge has no showers (other Cathay Pacific Business Class Lounges, like The Pier, do have showers)

CONCLUSION

The Wing is a very nice business class lounge with a nice selection of food and friendly service. While I far prefer The Pier (and also prefer the nearby Qantas Lounge), this is an excellent lounge and if convenient to your departure gate, not only worth using, but worth arriving early for.

Cathay has great lounges, and is something they arguably do better than their best Asian competitors do (ANA, JAL, SQ, and EVA).

    Great review. Very useful information.

Note that Matthew writing this review does not mean that he is a supporter of the Chinese Communist Party or a stooge of the People’s Republic of China. They are a very repressive government, only beaten to the title by North Korea and Iran. Yet some people don’t want Matthew to report on the parade commemorating the US Army’s founding. Those people are bullies. I want a report on the parade and not have to rely on the biased news media. That is a testament to Matthew’s ethics.

You can just take your comment over to the article he posted about the parade, which would render your weird off topic little rant, on topic. See how commenting works?

It is shocking that this lounge doesn’t have showers. That’s very poor.

Pretty sure The Wing has showers in the business class lounge. They are on the ground level of the lounge along with some extra seating space as well.

Can anyone else confirm? I did not see any…

As per their website they do not have showers listed (The Pier does, though).

The Wing is my least favorite CX lounges in HKG, the decor is so outdated and the vibe is a bit dull, not to mention that it’s always crowded due to its convenient location, I’m glad that a renovation is on the horizon. I would only come here if I was pressed for time and my departure gate was close by, otherwise, I would take the train and head to The Pier instead.
