Delta Air Lines Passenger Says Flight Attendant Tried To Serve Food From The Floor, Then Threw A Glove At Him

A Delta Air Lines passenger says a flight attendant tried to serve food after dropping it on the floor, then later threw a glove at him when he objected. Police met the aircraft after landing. The problem is that the most important part of the confrontation is not on video…

Delta Passenger Says Flight Attendant Tried To Serve Food Dropped On Floor, Then Threw A Glove At Him

I’ve seen several videos circulating online (though I cannot find the source!) showing the aftermath of a rather bizarre confrontation onboard a Delta flight.

In the clips, a male passenger is clearly upset and says the whole thing started when a flight attendant dropped food on the aircraft floor and then tried to serve it anyway.

He claims he objected, the situation escalated, and at some point the flight attendant threw a glove at him.

He even holds up what appears to be part of the glove while explaining his side of the story.

Later, he is handed a Delta “Notice of Violation” card, essentially a formal onboard warning that his behavior is being treated as disruptive.

Police were called and met the aircraft when it landed. The route and date were not specified.

That’s quite an escalation over a dropped meal…

But What Actually Happened?

Here’s the problem: the video starts too late.

We do not see:

  • the food being dropped.
  • the flight attendant attempt to serve it afterward
  • the beginning of the argument
  • how the glove ended up in the passenger’s possession.

So while the passenger’s version is certainly possible, I don’t think we can simply take it as established fact based on the videos now circulating. I’ve asked Delta to comment and will update this post if I hear back.

What we can say is that he appears relatively composed during the recorded portion of the incident and repeatedly explains the same basic allegation: food hit the floor, he objected to it being served, and the confrontation deteriorated from there.

That does not prove he behaved appropriately before the camera started rolling.

It also does not prove the flight attendant did.

And that’s why I’m making no conclusions (yet).

The Notice Of Violation Card

The passenger is shown being given a Delta Notice of Violation card.

That sounds rather dramatic, but it is essentially an onboard warning used when a crew believes a passenger’s conduct has crossed into disruptive behavior or could violate federal regulations.

It does not tell us who started the confrontation or whether the passenger’s underlying complaint was legitimate.

It tells us the crew believed his behavior had become serious enough to document.

If his version is accurate, trying to serve food after it fell on an aircraft floor would obviously be unacceptable. I’ve spent enough time on airplanes to know what ends up on those floors. No thanks…

But if the passenger became aggressive, abusive, or interfered with the crew when challenging it, that would be a separate issue.

Both things could theoretically be true…it seems likely that something  had to upset him unless he was just intoxicated.

CONCLUSION

This is one of those viral airline confrontations where many are quick to pick a side, but the available video does not show the part that actually matters.

A Delta passenger says a flight attendant dropped food, tried to serve it anyway, then threw a glove at him when he objected. Delta apparently viewed his own behavior seriously enough to issue a Notice of Violation, and police met the aircraft after landing.

Maybe he was completely justified.

Maybe we’re missing a lot.

Probably both sides have more to say and in this case, until we see the beginning of the confrontation or hear from Delta, I would be very cautious about declaring either the passenger or the flight attendant the villain here.

Delta believes in the five second rule. Gross because even if an item if double wrapped, it’s still dirty.

Hi Matt. Is there a reason why you never – when writing these stories – try to get an explanation from the airline? You have so many contacts and a powerful voice, so you can at least try to get a comment. With this story, we have no idea if the airline is even aware of the situation.

He stated in the story he reached out to Delta and asked them to comment. I’m sure he will update when he hears more, he usually does.
