EasyJet is celebrating the birthday of its oldest employee, who is affectionally known as “Nana Pam” and has served over 800,000 passengers in her role as a flight attendant over the last two decades.

Former hairdresser Pam Clark signed up to become an EasyJet flight attendant at the age of 53. That was in 2003. 20 years later, she has flown over 4,500 flights, serving over 800,000 passengers during that time. She’s a grandmother and will soon be a great-grandmother, but sees no end to her time in the skies.
In fact, she has become EasyJet’s recruitment ambassador for employees aged 45 and higher, a new campaign I wrote about here and think is a great idea.

What does Clark think about “older” folks becoming flight attendants in a field dominated by much younger folks (especially when it comes to EasyJet, which offers budget fares in part by offering budget wages to its staff)?
“My advice to anyone over the age of 45 thinking about applying for a role as cabin crew at easyJet would be to go for it. When I applied for the role 20 years ago, I knew that my age and experience meant I had something really valuable to offer. Nowadays, I’m meeting more and more colleagues like me who have made a brave career change later in life. Don’t be afraid!”
It’s great advice – and while being a flight attendant can be physically demanding, it is also very rewarding when you love what you do and experience the joy that comes from doing a job well.
