On the heels of United Airlines’ announcement last week that it would commence service from its San Francisco hub to Xi’an, Auckland, and Tel Aviv comes news that it will add three summer routes next year, including the resumption of service to Athens.
A United FA on Flyertalk leaked the news over the weekend and today United made it official—
New York/Newark to Athens on United Airlines
United will operate a daily flight from Newark to Athens from May 25th to October 5th using Boeing 767-300 aircraft.

Washington/Dulles to Barcelona on United Airlines
United will operate a daily non-stop flight between Washington Dulles and Barcelona between May 25th and September 6th with a Boeing 767-400 aircraft.

Flight times for the Barcelona service will be 8 hours 10 minutes traveling eastbound and 9 hours 15 minutes traveling westbound.
United has served Spain for more than 20 years, and this new service complements the airline’s existing year-round flights to both Barcelona and Madrid from New York/Newark.
Washington/Dulles to Lisbon on United Airlines
United will operate a Boeing 757-200 between May 25th and September 6th between Washington Dulles and Lisbon.

United’s new international flights are good news for international travelers and those looking for more mileage redemption options. While it is unlikely we will see saver award space in business class on these premium routes, it always pays to keep an eye out on United.com if you want to use miles to get to Spain, Portugal, or Greece next summer. We just might get lucky.
