Great Coffee In Bali

Matthew Klint Posted onFebruary 14, 2024February 14, 2024 8 Comments

Indonesia is home to some of the best coffee in the world and I found a great cup of coffee at a famous watering hole in Bali’s busy Seminyak district. But I also mourn the loss of another establishment that served what remains the best coffee I have ever had…or at least my inability to find it.

Best Coffee In Bali

I was so excited to show my friend my favorite coffee shop in Bali called Clean Canteen. I had found it in 2019 while staying in the Alila Seminyak and to this day the flat white I had there remains the best cup of coffee I have ever had.

But it wasn’t there! Instead, the location pictured above is now a 7-11. I was devastated.

It does appear that the café is back in business though at a different location…I hope to go back on my next trip.

Unable to locate Clean Canteen, our driver suggested Revolver, an upscale coffee chain with a number of locations in the area.

The vibe was hip and it seemed more were ordering food or alcohol than coffee, but coffee is the speciality.

I ordered flat white and fresh-pressed orange juice, both of which hit the spot. It was a very warm day, but I drink hot coffee no matter how hot the weather is.

My friend slept through breakfast and ordered a Bloody Mary and Nasi Goreng.

Great food and great service.

I also tried a place called Sugar on my way to Tegenungan Waterfall.

I loved the garden dining here…it was lovely to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee in the shade.

The coffee was fine (it was worth a stop) though I think by that time (afternoon) I had already had too much coffee.

CONCLUSION

I’m happy to see that it appears that Clean Canteen has survived and I look forward to returning next time, though Revolver also offers excellent coffee.

Finally, I did try Kopi luwak (civet coffee) while in Bali…more on that later.

Hey Revolver! In 2018, my family and I used to forego the free breakfast at the W Seminyak so we could walk down to the little Revolver Cafe, which was called Baby Rev I think. Very cozy small place with great coffee. We used to get really good juice at the Clean Canteen in the afternoons.

Greetings from Jakarta, Matthew. I was actually just chatting with my friend few weeks back about Clean Canteen as her husband’s friend is the owner of the place. They recently also just closed the Clean Canteen right across from where I work in Jakarta. So apparently they are relocating their current restaurants/cafes because they plan to change the aesthetic concepts. So hopefully they will be back in business by the time you come back with a slightly different look but still delicious coffee. They also serve really good Indonesian food there.

You should also try Baked in Canggu area next time in Bali for some coffee and brunch food.

Revolver legitimately becomes a cocktail bar at nighttime. Mexicola, which is nearby is kind of the vantage point for that area. Also not too far from Alila Seminyak. For better or worse, you’ll find me around here when I’m in Bali. Cheers!
