My Meal of the Week feature examines an airline meal from my travels over the years. This may be a meal from earlier in the week or it may be a meal served over a decade ago.
During the pandemic, United Airlines is not currently selling snackboxes onboard its flights. However, first class passengers do receive a choice of snackbox on flights over 2.5 hours, with the exception of premium transcontinental flights which still offer a full meal service. Surprisingly, the Kids’ Snackbox on United is a very good choice for adults as well.
Kid’s Snackbox On United Airlines
Shortly after takeoff on my recent redeye from San Francisco to Chicago, flight attendants appeared with their carts, offering a choice of snackbox to every passenger onboard. The flight attendant rattled off the options (tapas, classic, select) and did not mention the kid’s snackbox. But upon request, she did have a few in her cart. The guy behind me also ordered one.
The box contains artwork featuring “Ben Flyin the Adventure Bear” and there’s also a coloring book and crayons inside. I put the crayons and coloring book in my bag to take home for my three-year-old son and pulled out the contents. The box included:
- Applesauce
- Beef stick
- Cheddar crackers
- Fruit snacks
- Graham snacks
While not as fancy or gourmet as the tapas snackbox, it was a nice assortment. There was some protein in the beef stick, the cheddar crackers were salty and crunchy, the graham cookies were sweet, the applesauce had no added sugar and was somewhat healthy, and finally some fruit snacks are tasty any time of day.
I did feel somewhat like the Trix rabbit ordering this snackbox…
CONCLUSION
For a midnight snack, this really hit the spot. Whether you’re a kid or an adult, I can recommend the kid’s snackbox on United.
I’ve gotten to the point where I like it better than the Classic box, which used to my favorite.
I’d rather eat this than the disgusting trash they serve in Y…
