Business Class Lunch From Easter Island On LATAM

Matthew Klint Posted onAugust 14, 2018November 14, 2023 10 Comments

A hot lunch and a lie-flat bed were the perfect antidotes to a bad sun reaction, as both led to sleep. This week’s Meal of the Week focuses on a business class lunch from Easter Island to Santiago.

This trip took place in 2012. At the time, LAN and TAM were still separate and my flight was operated by LAN Chile. While LATAM has taken delivery of 787s and A350s with a new business class product, it still retains 767-300s in the fleet with a business class pictured below:

Service began with mixed nuts with cranberries and a choice of beverage after takeoff:

a bowl of nuts and a glass of water

For the main course, I ordered beef with a wonderful side of corn casserole and cooked tomatoes.

a plate of food on a tray

The salad included mushrooms and cheese:

Desert was a multi-layered cake with a dollop of orange jam on top.

a white square with a yellow yolk on top

To date, this has been the best meal I’ve had on LATAM (six flights).

CONCLUSION

The trip to Easter Island is a must-see for any “bucket list” traveler. The island was unique, people friendly, and food tasty. Even better, you an use your miles to get there. If you end up flying up front on LATAM, expect a decent meal and lie-flat bed.

wow, I regard LATAM J food as some of the worst food I’ve ever had on a plane. 4 flights with them in total (including 2 to/from Easter Island). Easter Island meals were marginally better. MARGINALLY. Avianca is another one with disastrous food.

This sector is now operated by the B787 (barring any engine issues).

Dude seriously, you wrote an article about something you did 6 FREAKIN years ago? Wow that clearly is one of the lamest things ever, how about either a. learn to write something valid or b. move out of Mom&Dads house.

    Pathetic

This is what Meal of the Week is. Geez…that’s why I put a link to the archive in the first paragraph every week. Classic meals. From last week or last decade. That’s what this series of posts is about.

Matthew, maybe you don’t have the bandwidth, willingness or passion to blog anymore. That’s ok!

But please carefully consider if posting six year old reviews is something really want to do. It seems like an awful shame to ruin your brand by putting out garbage content.

Thanks for the advice, but the point of my Meal of the Weeks posts is to chronicle historic meals. If you think this is garbage content, you’re free to vote with your feet. This weekly feature stays.

Ugh…that picture of the cabin took me straight back in time. 🙂 Thanks for that–feels like flying when I was little.

This was only a few years ago! Don’t make me feel so old! 😉

    Matthew,

Disappointed in my fellow readers…so salty!

The corn casserole, can you describe it in a bit more detail? Almost seems like it’s “pastel de choclo.” Which wouldn’t necessarily be a side to s hunk of beef… But a good looking entree, for sure! (And for me, a nice Chilean red would have paired very nicely with your meal.)
