Review: Lufthansa Business Class Lounge Frankfurt – Pandemic Edition

Matthew Klint Posted onNovember 18, 2020 10 Comments

While the physical space has not changed, do not expect much in terms of amenities if you’re traveling through a Lufthansa Business Class lounge in Frankfurt during the pandemic, at least for now.

Lufthansa Business Class Lounge Frankfurt Review – Pandemic

My visit occurred shortly after Germany re-instituted a nationwide partial lockdown and that required a dramatic restructuring of the lounge. All self-serve food and drink service has been suspended. Counters that were once full of freshly-prepared salads, sandwiches, hot dishes, and other treats are now bare. Coffee machines and beer taps have been turned off.

If you want something to eat, Lufthansa offers a grab-and-go service on he way out of the lounge, which includes a choice of water or juice, banana, and a choice of sandwich or bread. During my visit the choice was between a German pretzel (bretzel) or a pumpkin brioche with goat cheese and thyme sandwich.

Social distancing markers have been placed around the lounge. Several of the chairs are blocked. Even so, the lounge was not even close to approaching capacity, with plenty of room to spread out.

Everyone wore masks, as required, though that did not stop one gentlemen from having a loud conversation for everyone else to enjoy….

Restrooms operate as normal, but the showers have been suspended during the pandemic.

Access is reserved for Lufthansa first + business class passengers and Star Alliance Gold members, though Star Gold members can use the Senator Lounge nearby and the lounge is directly adjacent to Lufthansa’s first class lounge near gate A13 (just past the security checkpoint though the duty free store).

CONCLUSION

It appears Lufthansa has temporarily closed this lounge since my visit last week, but you will receive identical service and amenities in the Senator Lounge. Right now, expect only a waiting room and you will not be disappointed.

Did they even serve bottled beer? Or Haribos in a pack? That LH lounges have less than UA lounges is astounding to me, even under the circumstances.

Nope. No alcohol or gummy bears that I noticed.

Copa for star gold? Would’ve never thought that. United looks not as bad now that they’ve lowered PQP requirements for 2021.

I would agree United will be much easier this year and next year.

I was in this lounge in January and it slammed with people….no places to sit…genuinely uncomfortable and the buffet was gross because so many folks were churning through. The staff couldn’t backfill the food quickly enough. Well, we’re now on the polar opposite of what the lounge used to be. I’m kind of curious what the new normal will look like, now that the 747-400s and A380s are gone. It’s a nice lounge, but would be one heck of alot nicer if it weren’t so full (at least in the mornings). Will be interesting to see.

I was in the Senator Lounge near gate B42 the day before on November 17. The service there is absolutely the same, as it is open for C-class Pax also at the moment.

Still no food or drink inside the lounge? How long will this last in DE?

I don’t understand why the lounges are not open yet. However, the lounges that are open seem to be only handing out school type lunches if you’re lucky to even get that. I spend a lot of money on flights and I did enjoy going into the lounge, relaxing, grabbing a hot meal until my next flight. Not any more, this is already getting to be ridiculous. Open the lounges already.

The @qatarairways Al Mourjan Business Lounge at Do The @qatarairways Al Mourjan Business Lounge at Doha Hamad International Airport is one of my favorite business class and @oneworld lounges in the world. It does get crowded at peak times, but the food is consistently delicious and always worth a stop. There’s even a separate café with grilled paninis made-to-order. With a second lounge now open (Al Mourjan Lounge at The Garden), hopefully the crowding won’t be as bad around midnight.

While not surprising, it is sad to see the growing list of carriers retiring this superjumbo jet. On Malaysia Airlines, I flew the #A380 once from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR) and had the entire first class cabin to myself (full review on the blog). It was a beautiful flight that I will always remember.
