Recalling the Scariest Flight of My Life

Matthew Klint Posted onMarch 31, 2017April 1, 2017 2 Comments

Although I am clearing the backlog of old trip reports that have sat unpublished for years, there is one flight in my current trip report series that I wrote about back closer to when it occurred. For good reason…it still makes my heart beat fast.

So ironic, that it was on Malaysian Airlines. I suggest you read it here. It really puts this post in perspective. FWIW, it also happens to be what I consider one of the most meaningful posts I’ve ever written.

Look at the four pictures below and you’ll think it was just a short 1hr55min flight on a 737. You might be impressed by the meal service, gulai and roti canai. You might notice that we were seated in an aisle with a missing window. Or you might notice that it looked like a beautiful day outside.

But there was a storm system over Phnom Penh. And it wasn’t pretty.

I still think about that flight. While I would not call it PTSD, flights like that have a scarring effect. If you have ever been on a flight like, you will certainly be able to relate.

Frankly, I don’t even want to discuss this flight more, but it was the next flight in this trip report. I’ll just say that I do not blame Malaysia Airlines for bad weather and appreciated the full-service experience as opposed to my last flight on AirAsia.

Malaysia Airlines 762

Depart: 04:40PM
Arrive: 05:35PM

Aircraft: Boeing 737-800
Seat: 8A (Economy Class) [caution: missing window]

A picture is worth a 1000 words? Actually, a picture tells little in the case of this flight…

I am shocked you are not comparing this food to a Delta One meal 😉

Actually – that’s roti canai, not chapathi — roti canai is much tastier. Malaysians are proud of their food.
