Marriott Members Can Now Earn Lufthansa Status Points Through Hotel Stays

Marriott Bonvoy and Lufthansa Miles & More have launched a preferred partnership that lets members of both programs earn status and elite benefits through hotel stays.

Marriott Bonvoy & Lufthansa Miles & More Partner To Boost Elite Status Benefits

As of September 15, 2025, Marriott Bonvoy members who link their Miles & More accounts can earn 40 Miles & More status points for each qualifying stay of at least two consecutive paid nights. These status points are awarded up to 120 Miles & More status points per year (i.e., three stays). These are in addition to the regular Bonvoy points or Miles & More miles earned from stays.

The following status points are required for status in Miles & More:

  • Frequent Traveler – 650 status points
  • Senator status – 2,000 status points
  • HON Circle – 6,000 status points

However, note that while half the status points can be earned from non-flying sources for Frequent Traveler and Senator status holders, all 6,000 status points must be earned from Lufthansa Group carriers, so even these 120 status points from Marriott would not count.

Miles & More Senator and HON Circle members now receive a complimentary instant match to Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status without needing the usual elite‐night requirement.

The partnership is reciprocal in terms of status recognition but does not allow dual earnings in every direction. For example, stays can earn status points for Miles & More, but there is no earning of Marriott Bonvoy points for flying, nor a points transfer from Bonvoy stays into Miles & More’s award mile bucket.

To participate, members must link their Marriott Bonvoy and Miles & More accounts, and the stay must be with participating Marriott Bonvoy properties. The status match to Gold for Senators/HON Circle is valid as long as those Lufthansa statuses are maintained under the partnership’s terms. There are no matches available (at this time) from Marriott to Lufthansa.

CONCLUSION

This new Marriott & Lufthansa alliance delivers at least marginal value for Lufthansa passengers who stay at Marriott hotels: Marriott Bonvoy members get a way to slightly accelerate their Miles & More status; Lufthansa elite members receive immediate hotel elite perks with Marriott. While not a game-changer, it is better than nothing.

Two of the most worthless loyalty programs coming together.

A fellow BA blogger called out this “partnership”, correctly stating that this was pretty much worthless for Marriott members but M&M elites get something with no ongoing effort whatsoever.
