Famed boxer Mike Tyson attacked a passenger seated behind him on a JetBlue flight to Florida who would not stop talking to him.

The incident occurred onboard a JetBlue flight from San Francisco (SFO) to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) on Wednesday night. Tyson was traveling in JetBlue’s Mint business class product and so was the man who apparently would not leave the boxer alone.
The conversation started cordially. Tyson even agreed to a selfie. But the man and and his friend were relentless and would not stop talking. Eventually, Tyson told the guy to chill out. But he did not–the badgering continued.
At one point, Tyson had enough, stood up, and started hurling punches at the man seated behind him, drawing blood. All of this occurred before the flight even departed.
Tyson then stepped off the flight. So did the passenger, who sought medical attention and also the police. It isn’t clear if he will be filing charges. JetBlue has also not responded to a request for comment.
TMZ, which broke the story, reports that the bothersome passenger was extremely intoxicated.
Look, I appreciate peace and quiet onboard too. I won’t go out of my way to make small talk with my seatmate and I will always respect someone’s desire to be undistributed.
Here, we cannot excuse Tyson’s outburst…it exhibits a disgusting lack of self-control…but at the same time, part of me does feel bad for Tyson. It was a redeye flight: he just wanted to sleep.
If you watch the video above, you almost have to wonder if the whole thing was a set-up. Look at the gestures the passenger makes toward the camera. It’s almost as if this was a contest to stir up Tyson.
After the guy was beaten up, he is heard saying:
“My boy just got beat up by Mike Tyson. Yeah, he got f*cked up. Just trying to ask for an autograph. I don’t know what happened.”
Nonsense. It seems clear the passenger was harassing Tyson. Sometimes when you mess with fire, you get burned…

My sympathy for Mike Tyson. He’s an emotionally, and I say this without insult, intellectually vulnerable person whose nonetheless physically powerful and this has led to people provoking and exploiting him for personal gain. He needs someone to look out for him.
It’s sad that nobody reached out to the cabin crew to get the jerk to stop bothering him but instead filmed hoping something would happen. Mike should have raised the matter as well.

The implications are pretty clear, and this guy was definitely asking for it. Not condoning Tyson’s reaction, only that I wouldn’t have expected anything different.

This is one of those situations where I don’t generally support the reaction but Mike Tyson did not commit a sin here. Not responding with violence to any speech is the general operating principle as words are words but repeated harassment when one is asked to stop in a confined space is a different story. Anyone who provokes Mike Tyson with repeated harassment gets what is coming to him.

Lucky this clown was able to walk away after getting punched by Tyson since he hits like a freight train with just a 1-2. In my opinion, he was encroaching the mans space, making threatening physical moves and it was self defense.
