New Audio and Video from UA3411 Dragging Incident

CCTV Footage UA3411

As we try to piece together an accurate storyline of the UA3411 incident, new audio and video brings a new twist to the controversy.

Gate surveillance video obtained by NBC News shows that passengers de-boarded and then boarded again before Dr. Dao was dragged off.

While conceivable this could just be some fancy editing, the timeline suggests that United did indeed try what would have been the most logical solution to the problem: just usher everyone else off the plane and leave Dao onboard alone.

According to NBC’s analysis of the newly recovered CCTV footage of the gate area, the timeline went something like this:

  • Passengers board
  • Dr. Dao’s wife runs off the plane then runs back on
  • Police/Paramedics called
  • Passengers leave the aircraft
  • Passengers return to the aircraft
  • Police board the aircraft
  • Dr. Dao dragged off

Here’s the video–

My original understanding was that the paramedics were called after Dao was dragged off because he was bleeding and claimed to be a diabetic.

I looked for the original/raw CCTV footage and could not find it. If I am able to locate it, we will be able to confirm the timeline a little better.

Bottom line, though — it does appear now that United pulled off all the passengers. A shame they did not sort out the “oversell” (I know many of you dispute that term because the seats were needed for four employees) prior to re-boarding. Let’s see if we can clarify the timeline.

This has been explained already. They deboarded the plane to clean the blood before reboarding.
