Woman Has Meltdown After Ground Delay Leaves Her Trapped Onboard

I do somewhat empathize with the woman who just had enough: her flight was already delayed, but a ground delay upon arrival waiting for staff to offload the aircraft proved one delay too many.

Passenger Meltdown AFTER Arrival Due To Ground Delay In Off-Boarding Aircraft

The video below has been widely shared with the following commentary:

On August 19, 2023 Peagus Airlines flight PC2409 from Gaziantep (GZT) to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen (SAW)  took off after a one-hour operational delay.

After arriving late into Istanbul, it approached the parking position, but then passengers faced a further one-hour delay for ground staff to open the aircraft door due to an “ongoing staffing shortage” at Pegasus.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the passengers inside the plane began to get nervous and shout.

I think we can all remember times in which our flight (whether early, on-time, or late) reached the final parking position only for a long delay to ensue while waiting for ground staff to show up and connect the jet bridge with the aircraft. Those delays are even more aggravating than departure delays because you are at your destination and if you could just get off the plane you’d be home or be able to reach your connecting flight.

These sorts of delays become common during busy periods at a busy airport like Sabiha Gökçen in Istanbul. While I cannot speak to the staffing shortage at Pegasus, airlines are still in hiring mode as they seek to re-staff after pandemic-era cutbacks.

Which leads us to the woman onboard. I get it. I’m not posting this to mock her. Rather, it’s a bit of a wake-up call that at this point in 2023 it is absurd that airlines cannot more efficiently process inbound flights.

CONCLUSION

I don’t think any airline delay is more annoying than waiting for a gate or jet bridge upon arrival. A delay on a Pegasus flight in Istanbul proved a bit too much for one woman onboard…and I sympathize with her.

Based on the headline and photo (which won’t play for me), I thought it was man-bun-fannypack-soy-boy there, who couldn’t wait to get to his Nissan Leaf.

      I thought the same!

Was let down by the freak out consisting of only a little screaming.

As long as they have AC on, it’s ok, if they shut if off my wife would (justifiably) freak out

Reminded me of Matthew’s scream when they ran out of sirloin at the Golden Corral.

No, that was when he was served processed, not freshly squeezed, orange juice in Lufthansa First Class.

You got it wrong. It is not the fault of the airlines but the airports ground staff that are the employees of the airports

Not true. Not at major hubs.

I have experienced something similar a few time while not 1 hour. You have the gate agent that in most airports works for the airline or is contracted to manage the flight for the airline. They have all sorts of tools to know when the plane will land. Thus, once the plane gets to the gate and seat belt sign it off, there is absolutely no excuse for any delay in moving the jetway and opening the plane door. Zero. No excuses. The gate agent is there because there are usually passengers getting ready to board the same plane so it should be the priority to open the door and get people out. Staffing shortage is BS. The other day we landed and stupid gate agent took 15 minutes to move the jetway. Where the f..k was she? In the bathroom? On the phone? She had one job and failed it. I have zero sympathy for incompetence.

I like how the guy with the bun continues to click away on his phone and just ignores the whole thing like it’s not even happening.

Everybody is standing up so the airplane is at the gate and the luggage can be offloaded and put on the carousels so that anyone around can pilfer or steal. I understand her being upset.
