Pimento Pretzel Burger On United Airlines

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 21, 2023November 13, 2023 14 Comments

Each month United slightly modifies its burger offering on its buy onboard menu in economy class. This month’s burger includes pimento and bacon jam, which sounds like an interesting combo but turned out to be somewhat of a nothingburger.

Taste Test: Pimento Pretzel Burger On United Airlines

United offers hot meals for purchase in economy class (“Bistro On Board“) on flights of 1,190 miles and over. The $10 burger is available between 10:00 am and 8:59 pm.

This month there was a fairly large divergence between the stock photo:

a burger with a glass of beer

And the burger itself:

a lunch on a table

food on a tray with drinks and a sandwich

a burger on a napkin

a burger on a tray

a piece of food on a napkin

I did not taste the bacon or the cheese. I did see a bit of it, when I opened the burger, but the overwhelming taste was the pretzel bun and the beef patty itself. Now mind you the burger was still quite satisfactory, but the toppings were essentially inconsequential. Mustard and ketchup were provided separately.

One thing that was slightly disturbing was the mile-long list of ingredients:

a bag of food with a label

I understand that ingredients have to be preserved, but are all these ingredients really necessary?

CONCLUSION

I guess my verdict is always the same when I review a United burger: it’s always decent. Don’t expect much from the toppings this month, but the beef and pretzel bun still make for a nice combo.

I did not think that cheeseburger looked good in the stock photograph when I was a passenger aboard an airplane operated by United Airlines last week, Matthew.

The thought of paying ten dollars and eating one was only worsened by my imagination when I read your typographic error: nothingbuger.

You might want to correct that error for fewer queasy stomachs…

      Fixed. Thanks.

I didn’t have to pay since I’m 1K, but I think it is worth the money to help the flight fly by.

Didn’t expect this! Love the cheeseburger update! Maybe you could rank your favourite airline/airport cheeseburgers ??

Pimento cheese on a plane just seems like a really, really bad idea. I like a good pimento cheese, but it doesn’t reheat particularly well, and is really nasty once it gets cold and congeals. More power to UA if they can get it right.

Wow, you don’t get the ingredients list in First Class. That is long
I had one on each of my flights last Tuesday to position for QF LAX SYD
I used the mustard ;-). I thought they were relatively tasty, but the bun was really greasy to pickup.

Good for what it is, I guess: super processed comfort food.

I love visiting Germany and eating the pretzels, I also love pretzel buns but I really would prefer a burger on a plainer bun. I recently stopped in a chocolate store and asked if they had any chocolate caramels that did not have salt on them. I just find salt over powers the flavor of the chocolate and caramel. I can get salt anytime I want on fries or chips. I don’t agree with some that think it enhances the flavor, it just over powers it and you just taste a ton of salt. So

I tried it today. My pre order for F was part of a glitch and it didn’t get loaded. I thought, let’s see what this burger is about then. It was beyond disgusting. I tried to chip away at parts of it and gave up. No part of it had any reason to ingest it in your body. I ate the salad on the set up and called it a day.

UA needs to just give up the Burger concept. Really. It’s not working no matter what version they come up with.

Compared to what SAS or others do with buy on board? Is it really that hard to come up with healthy and tasty dishes? This burger makes 7-11 look good. I get that junk is fun sometimes, if you are 16. But for adults this is a disgusting processed slap of gop. And I am pretty patient with airplane food.
