Qatar Airways Shines in the Dark of Night

Matthew Klint Posted onJanuary 20, 2018November 14, 2023 5 Comments

My final segment on my Qatar Airways “Golden Ticket” was a flight from Doha to Ho Chi Minh City aboard an A330 that departed at 2am.

You might think catering would be more limited on an overnight flight departing in the middle of the night. To some extent it was, but I was amazed by Qatar’s thoughtful selection even on a relatively shortly international flight.

Like all Qatar Airways flights in business class, dining on demand via an a la carte menu was available. And while I consciously try to avoid alcohol where possible for caloric reasons, I always enjoy a glass of rosé champagne on Qatar. It is always refreshing.

Even SWISS First did not have rosé wine or champagne…

Here’s the a la carte menu for the flight:

After takeoff I enjoyed a delicious salad that included asparagus, mixed beans, walnuts, mandarin oranges, and blueberries.

That was followed by a delicious mushroom ravioli.

Fruit to finish.

Extremely satisfying.

Then a second meal what seemed only like a few hours later, including fresh orange juice, a smoothie, cappuccino, a yogurt parfait, and an omelet.

a white mug with a brown substance in it

I may post a full flight review, I may not, but I’ve reviewed the hard product extensively before.

Once again, however, I just want to underscore how much I appreciate Qatar’s attention to detail in dining and diverse menus on even (relatively) short flights.

Hubby and I flew Wednesday night DOH to JFK. I found the fruit past it’s prime. Yours looked much better than mine! I could not believe how hopping that airport is at 1 in the morning!

LOL you avoid alcohol because of “caloric reasons” and then proceed to eat two full multi-course meals on a medium-haul flight.

That’s right. It’s a tradeoff and I’d rather eat crap than drink it.
