Review: Park Hyatt Beijing — Luxury Is Personal Even For Kids

Carly Stewart Posted onFebruary 1, 2017July 3, 2017 3 Comments

I already knew from a previous stay that the Park Hyatt Beijing was going to impress, but I can honestly say that I had no idea just how much their personal touches, during our recent stay, would leave a lasting impression. It left such an impression in fact, that I wanted to immediately share this luxury experience.

Cost

Perhaps one of the best values in the entire Hyatt system, cash rates are routinely available for $220-$250 dollars per night or 10,000 points plus $125 and Diamond Suite Upgrades are typically available. Given how highly we value our Hyatt Gold Passport points, it was a simple decision for us to spend cash for this short stay and as you will see, the value for money is very high.

We booked the hotel car to pick us up at the airport as we had on previous trips and despite a three-hour delay arriving into Beijing Capital Airport, we were greeted by a member of the airport staff with our names on a card at the end of the jet bridge.  She walked us through immigration lines, collected our baggage and escorted us through the VIP pick up area where our car was waiting underneath the airport. The seven series BMW was welcoming, but for me the best part was the child seat was already installed and ready for my daughter to safely begin the journey to the hotel.

Luxury Hotel Car

The hotel is located in Beijing’s Central Business District, surrounded by luxury shopping, dining and the metro for easy access to places such as Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City. The hotel is located on the top 10 floors of the skyscraper, and boasts a modern design that feels sleek and luxurious with its impressive views from every corner.

Upon our arrival to the hotel our bags were collected by staff members and we were warmly greeted and taken to our room. As my husband holds Diamond status with Hyatt we used our suite upgrades for this stay and were just as impressed with the suite as we had been during this previous stay.  My daughter, Lucy, immediately noticed a welcoming of colorful balloons waiting for her on the living room sofa. The placement of a few balloons was something so simple and yet for her was a very exciting touch.

Living Room

We soon found out that this was just the beginning, the special touches didn’t stop there.

In the bathroom, little soaps specifically for kids and a miniature robe were waiting next to the impressive soaking tub that we couldn’t wait to swim in. Perhaps the soaps and robe should have been expected as we had a similar experience on our previous stay, but we were just as happy to see these items again.

Bathroom with large soaking tub

The biggest surprise of all awaited for Lucy in the bedroom.  As we turned the corner into the bedroom, a canvas play tent came into view. Located in the bedroom next to the king-sized bed, the tent was perfect for our daughter and made up with a mattress, pillow, comforter, panda bear and slippers just outside on her own welcome mat. I knew this was going to be so exciting and since Lucy was still captivated with the balloons in the living room she hadn’t even seen this yet.

The day before we left we had Christmas with my family and my mother gave Lucy a play tent for her bedroom. It was immediately dubbed her very own “Jade Palace” as she is a very big fan of Kung Fu Panda. Now here in Beijing just a day later she can play in this “Jade Palace” during her stay at the Park Hyatt. For us this would be something we did not request and never expected but something that made her stay even that much more memorable, and ours as parents much easier.

Luxury for our daughter, her very own tent

Breakfast

It should never go without mentioning that this property also has one of the most impressive breakfast buffets with Michelin star food, and breathtaking views. For those concerned about kids who require western options, there are plenty of choices and the staff was quick and happy to accommodate our daughter’s every whim.

Pool

The infinity pool and oversized hot tubs are worth a visit during your stay. The pool is located adjacent to the fitness room with full lockers and showers, along with service staff ready to assist; even at the pool no detail is left to chance. Views of the city from 60 floors up, enhance the experience and as a rule, all kids love pools.

Oversized hot tub and infinity pool

From the front door to breakfast at the top floor, the desk, concierge, butlers and staff at this property are some of the best I have ever had the pleasure of staying with anywhere in the world.

The Park Hyatt holds themselves to a higher standard, embodied by their brand and motto, “Luxury is Personal.” While it may not be a surprise that the property would go to these lengths to ensure an amazing stay even for their smaller guests like Lucy, it is of course appreciated. It made our stay as parents just as special to watch her play, hide, camp and enjoy a slice of luxury right along side us.

If you have a choice where you stay in Beijing – don’t choose anywhere else.

XOXO Carly

Do they provide the face masks or do we have to bring our own? What oxygen or clean air bottles, just in case?

We brought our own masks just in case but once we checked into the hotel we were informed that they also had masks they were giving out to guests. (If traveling with a child, I would recommend trying a mask on before arriving to make sure it fits, the hotel had just one size.) We used the masks provided by the hotel when we went out to The Forbidden City, however, we were told that the day we had out was one of the clearest days for Beijing in weeks.
There were oxygen supplies and masks in the room in case of fire but from stays at other high end properties in China, this may be a standard safety feature, not to ward off poor air quality but to sustain you against smoke inhalation in case of fire.

Yes, the masks in the rooms are for fire and you will see them all over China in hotels.
