Review: Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge London (LHR)

The late morning is a great time to to visit the Singapore Airlines SilverKris lounge in London Heathrow (LHR) T2. I nearly had it to myself.

The lounge is open daily from 7:15a.m. to 10:00p.m. and I’m sure it fills up before the flights to Singapore. But at 11:30a…empty.

You’ll find the lounge on the second floor, right next to the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge.

After checking in, turn right for the business class section and you will find a small seating area followed by a dining area. The first class section, which I did not visit, was to the left.

Keep going you’ll hit the food…a decent buffet. The food is fresh and visually appealing. Noodles are available on request.

The bar is self-serve and coffee is available via machine (here, the Air Canada lounge has Singapore beat).

If you like ice cream, Singapore Sling-flavored ice cream was available (it sounded revolting to me!).

Walk past the buffet and you’ll come to the seating area:

As you can see, the lounge is seating is superb–comfortable and nicely styled. There’s also a children’s play area:

Finally, I checked out the restrooms and showers.

The main male restroom has room for 4-5 people at a time.

Three shower suites are also available:

a bathroom with a sink and toilet

a towel on a towel rack

a shower with a round shower head

CONCLUSION

I was very impressed by this lounge, especially its spaciousness and emptiness just before noon. If you are traveling in Star Alliance business class or hold Star Gold status and find the Lufthansa, Air Canada, or United lounges are crowded, check this one out.

The first class section is pretty nice as well. However, I did like the GlobalFirst lounge in LHR more.

“If you are traveling in Star Alliance business class or hold Star Gold status and find the Lufthansa, Air Canada, or United lounges are crowded, check this one out.”

Well that’s not exactly a ringing endorsement. Another way to put it is that this is basically the last choice if all the other lounges are full.

I did the LHR *A lounge tour a few months back and agree that the Singapore lounge is fine, but I can’t see why I’d choose it over the United or Lufthansa lounges. Looking back it’s hard to put a finger on what I disliked, but I think it just felt a bit dark and old-fashioned compared with the Lufthansa Senator lounge or the United Club.

LHR is my home airport and I do most of my travel on *A services.

If I have and A gates departure I use the LH lounge as IMO the length of walk there and back is not worth it for any of the B gate lounges which this is.

If I have a B gate departure then the SQ lounge is my favourite with AC second. Most of my travel is on SQ and I’m an SQ LPPS member so for me it’s a comfortable and familiar environment where I always feel comfortably at home. This is the third SQ lounge I can recall at LHR and it’s the best of them though I did like the last one in T3 before T2 opened.

Unlike many I don’t rate the UA lounge, undoubtably it’s better than many of their offerings but it just doesn’t work for me, I find it too blingy and brassy.

I prefer the UA lounge over the SQ lounge any day, although there are pluses and minuses for both.
