12 Hours In Singapore Airlines A380 Suites

Matthew Klint Posted onJune 24, 2023November 13, 2023 18 Comments

The first leg from New York to Frankfurt was great, but the long 12-hour leg from Frankfurt to Singapore onboard the Singapore Airlines A380 in Suites Class was simply sublime.

Singapore Suites A380: 12 Hours Of Bliss

After a 90-minute layover in Frankfurt (no first class lounge access, which is reserved for Lufthansa Group only, but I did enjoy a strong cappuccino and fresh orange juice in the Lufthansa Senator Lounge), it was time to continue SQ25 from Frankfurt to Singapore. The JFK-FRA flights was nice, but this was truly the flight I was looking forward to…12 hours is actually enough time to fully enjoy a product, even on a daytime service.

I entered from the upper deck again, but proceeded down the front staircase and had a peek downstairs. Returning upstairs, I marveled at the design of cabin…I do think this is the most beautiful first class cabin in the world.

The crew was superb on this flight…I will introduce them in more detail when I publish my full trip report, but just like on the first leg, I could not have asked for better service. The crew was the perfect blend of attentive without being overbearing and personable while maintaining the highest degree of professionalism.

We took off on time and were soon above the cloudy morning in Frankurt. I changed into pajamas and prepared for another feast. The cabin is quite spacious and private when the door is closed.

Lunch service began with satay, which tasted just like it does ex-Singapore.

Champagne was free-flowing.

two bottles of wine on a table

The only problem was that I was still full from the previous flight…and now lunch was just beginning. Singapore offers a dine-on-demand concept in first class, but I chose to eat anyway in hopes of sleeping for 8-9 hours between meals, especially since I did not really sleep on the first leg.

The caviar was nicely presented and I loved the blinis.

The “Book The Cook” menu was actually quite limited, but I decided to try the filet mignon once again. This time it was served with a herb curst and cooked tomatoes, butternut squash, asparagus, and dauphinoise (potatoes au gratin).

This time, the beef came out a very nice medium:

I really should have stopped there, but had some cheese…

…followed by sweets.

At that point my plan was to let the food settle for a bit, and go to sleep. My bed was made and I got comfortable and cozy. Even with the mattress pad I found this bed on the hard side, but the bedding was excellent and I was very comfortable. Although there are not individual air vents, the cabin was also kept at a reasonably cool temperature.

One cool thing about the suite is that the tablet used to control the in-flight-entertainment screen is wireless, which made it easy to utilize while sitting in bed.

I ended up not sleeping nearly as long as I planned…more on that in a bit.

Prior to landing, I had breakfast…the 10 hours between meals did restore some hunger.

First, I had fruit salad, yogurt, and a freshly-baked croissant.

Next, baked eggs with sausage and mushroom.

I concluded the meal with an espresso macchiato. The illy coffee is good onboard, but not industry-leading.

We landed in Singapore before sunrise and I bid the crew goodbye. How wonderful they were.

CONCLUSION

There is so much more I have to share from this flight…and will do so in the days ahead when I publish a full review.

Flying SQ25 from New York to Singapore via Frankfurt fulfilled a years-long dream and despite the rather hard bed, the Singapore Airlines A380 in Suites Class is absolutely one of the best first class products in the world. In terms of privacy, it is only paralleled by Emirates’ new 777 first class and the Etihad A380 Apartments, and I found the service onboard to be at an even higher level.

Would I do this flight again? In a heartbeat. This is the height of flying commercial.

Later today, though, I want to share one amusing aspect of this flight…stay tuned for that.

Looks like a great experience. It is amazing you found a good deal on this during the summer when point and cash prices are so high! It looks like they treated you well onboard and it is a beautiful cabin!

Great preview! Is it conceivable that a couple could dine together, like one person sitting on the bed? Or is the space strictly designed as a luxurious solitary confinement cell?

You can dine together, with one sitting on the bed. Though if I was traveling with Heidi we certainly would have reserved the 1A and 2A so that we could drop down the partition and not only dine together, but have a double bed.

I see other online photos where a petition can be lowered and a couple could be eating in the same combined “room”, albeit on opposite ends of the room. To know that there’s enough space to sit on the bed and eat in the same area is nice to know.

Much better to travel this way than get kidnapped in Somalia or Mali or die in a submersible next to the Titanic.

Correct. It really is a great product if you are traveling with a partner.

How much Krug 2004 did you drink? My life goal is to surpass 8 bottles of Dom in this epic FlyerTalk review: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trip-reports/1074418-8-bottles-dom-lax-bkk-sq-f.html

LOL. Just a couple glasses. I did not want to wake up with a headache.

I don’t think Krug 2004 would give you a headache.

Kudos to the crew indeed, especially for all those photo sessions they did for you.

Now that you’ve crossed this off of your bucket list, it would be interesting to see where this would rank on your “Top 5 best/Favorite First Class Products” list.

My friend took the photos, not the crew. Still, the crew was so lovely.

I still find the Air France seat and overall product the best of all, but this could be number two just ahead of Emirates and Etihad. Lufthansa still is near and dear to my heart but not quite in the same league right now, though still the most easily reachable aspirational product. SWISS probably #4. British Airways is nice…but near the bottom (though well above American Airlines).

Garuda would be #2, but sadly first class has been retired. Will try Qantas again later year. I don’t find Qatar Airways First Class much better than QSuite Busienss Class.

Need to fly Oman Air First and will hopefully do so, though Aeroplan space has been cut off…

It would be fun to fly New York-Frankfurt-Singapore on Singapore Airlines and then Singapore-Paris-New York on Air France to get an accurate comparison.

Is it official that Garuda isn’t bringing back first-class or even long-haul in its own planes?

The best part of Singapore’s airport (but also Kuala Lumpur and even Jakarta) are the fifth-freedom flights.

I’ve flown Ethiopian Airlines and Air Mauritius between SIN and KUL before; both times in business. Air Mauritius wasn’t any good, but Ethiopian was downright lovely. No meal, but I did get in four glasses of champagne (Nicolas Feuillatte). The flight attendants even gave me a couple extra amenity kits.

I also flew KLM between CGK and KUL. The flagship Garuda lounge at Jakarta was rubbish — at least the business-class section. But I did get some champagne from KLM (Nicolas Feuillatte again).

Great Flight! I’ve enjoyed this a couple times. Last year I flew out on the Non stop and back in Suites. Have October booked SSYD SIN LHR

How did you find space from London to Singapore? The 777 space is easily available, even at saver level with minimum flexibility, but I never see the A380 space in suites class.

Lovely write up and stunning photos.

Were those your PJs or did SQ provide them? Branding looks like Lalique. Please include details about them, the amenity kit, and slippers in your detailed report.

I’m curious about noise levels too.
I’m assuming deplaning by cabin class like ANA.

Nice to see mature (older) FAs.

Lots of envy on my part. I’ve never found UA award inventory on SQ long-hauls.

SQ provided the pajamas, they don’t match because I’m skinny and my legs are long. I needed a smaller shirt and longer trousers.

Cabin very quiet. I love the A380.

Space only bookable with SQ miles.

Sadly SQ doesn’t fly A380 anymore on JFK-FRA-SIN line. They switched to B777 in May.
