SWISS First Class Award Space Wide Open

Earlier today I wrote about SWISS First Class award space popping up on Aeroplan. This space is now bookable for other Star Alliance carriers as well.

We’ll eventually find out…maybe…if SWISS meant to release this space or not, but the flag carrier of Switzerland guards its first class cabin very closely, so this is quite rare. I expect fares to be honored, though, since SWISS has released similar space twice in the last two years and honored it.

But at least for now, first class space is bookable using two additional Star Alliance loyalty programs I have checked: United and ANA.

With United, I actually went through the booking process and was able to confirm two bookings. Both reservations have already ticketed and I can pull up the reservations on SWISS.com and choose seats.

As you can see, 110K with United is quite a bit more than 70K with Aeroplan. ANA charges 87,500 miles one-way, but you can only book on a round-trip basis. ANA also adds fuel surcharges to SWISS awards.

The space is not showing up on the Avianca LifeMiles award search page.

Just a few further data points.

See this post for more details.

Book quickly…I cannot imagine this will last and it’s now afternoon in Zurich.

It’s now 3am on the West Coast and I’m exhausted. I hope many of you will be able to book while I now sleep…

Wow…Thanks! I had an existing Business Class ZRH-MIA booked with Aeroplan. I transferred 15000 more points instantly from Amex and reached the call center when they opened at 7 AM Eastern. All booked!

Is this dead? I’m not seeing it when searching United (I haven’t tried Aeroplan or ANA)

I just booked LIS-LHR-LAX a few days ago in J with Aeroplan. Saw your post (I hate when stuff happens overnight LA time) and was lucky to see ZRH-LAX in F available same date. Called Aeroplan and they processed the change over the phone. The change fee was less than the refund in taxes. I guess I will have to buy a separate ZRH-LIS, oh well, not complaining. Nice get for 59k MR points!
