U.S. President Donald Trump began his Monday morning with some branding advice to Boeing.
Speaking via Twitter, Trump stated:
What do I know about branding, maybe nothing (but I did become President!), but if I were Boeing, I would FIX the Boeing 737 MAX, add some additional great features, & REBRAND the plane with a new name. No product has suffered like this one. But again, what the hell do I know?
That last sentence…
If the President wasn’t a teetotaler, I’d be wondering if he had a few too many last night and was still feeling the effects.
But let’s discuss the merits of the President’s suggestion. Would a new name really change much? Which new features could be added? What would that do with the thousands of existing orders for the 737 MAX? I doubt Boeing could just change components of the aircraft and rebrand it without negotiating contracts. And if Boeing makes substantial improvements to the aircraft, it is going to want more money from its customers.
CONCLUSION
So I am not sure what prompted this tweet, but I think Boeing’s path to being trusted not in putting lipstick on a pig but rather in ensuring that its 737 MAX is fully airworthy and able to minimize the risk of pilot error.

At first, I thought this was a great idea. I’m sure that if they want it, Boeing can rebrand without negotiating the SPA, if they drafted diligently.
Its nothing new. 737Max8 was a rebrand of 737 with new feature, which only requires an ipad training to the pilot.
At least we all know now how american (Boeing and the president) line of thinking works. If we can scam them, then let’s do it! Few people dead? Just apologise. Bad publicity, no worries. We got ton of media outlets that will work in our favour for free, in the name of nationalism. Hahaha…. Long live oil and democracy!
By great features he probably means decor in the manner of Louis XIV, reminiscent of his own hideous apartment. Maybe gold fittings in the toilets. Awful, vulgar man, so unworthy of that great office.
I still recognize the 717 as an MD95 and the A220 as a product from Bombardier, so I’m not sure what a rebrand would do. I suppose dropping the the word “Max” and replacing it with something else (not “Don” or “Trump”, j/k) might be an option; after all, the 737 remains one of the most recognizable family of aircraft in history and you don’t want to loose the goodwill of the a/c family name either.

Good thing the stock market hasn’t reacted to the news that the product responsible for 1/3 of Boeing’s profits has been deemed deeply flawed by the president of the USA.
He did say FIX it first.
If the Boeing people at the top knew this plane was dangerous they should be tried and publicly executed.
