Tuscan Caprese Burger On United Airlines

On my flight home from Chicago, I tried the Tuscan Caprese Burger on the United Airlines Bistro On Board menu, another example of crowd-pleasing comfort food.

Taste Test: Tuscan Caprese Burger From United Airlines Bistro On Board Menu

The $11 cheeseburger, available on flights over 1,190 miles departing between 10:00 am and 8:59 pm in the USA, is United’s latest twist on the in-flight burger:

Tuscan Caprese Burger
A juicy beef patty topped with creamy sliced mozzarella and sun-dried tomato aioli in an herb focaccia bun

As a 1K, I receive one free food and one free premium beverage option when traveling in economy class. I opted for the burger on my 7:45 pm flight from Chicago…a dinner of champions…

As always, the ingredient list was too long, the presentation was poor (everything was gloopy and stuck together), but it was delicious:

a brown bag with small packets on it

a packet of ketchup and mustard

a burger with sauces on a brown paper

a burger with cheese and sauce on a paper bag

My only advice: be sure to grab at least one sanitizing wipe when you board the plane, because you’re going to need more than a napkin to clean off your greasy hands!

a blue packet and a brown bag

I paired it with United’s new Moonlighter Vodka Spritz from Crafthouse Cocktails ($12), which is described as a “premium vodka spritz with steeped chamomile and lavender.” The alcohol content was only 11% and frankly I could not taste it. While the cocktail was bit too much on the sweet side, it had only 12 grams of sugar, which could have been much worse.

a can of alcohol next to a drink

a hand holding a can of beverage

I’m trying to avoid most alcohol these days so I’m not sure I would order it again.

But a decent dinner in economy class on United Airlines…I appreciate the options.

Have you tried United’s burger? What did you think?

For clarity, it’s a hybrid beef and soy protein burger.

I tried to get one the other day, sitting in row 10, should have been no problem, right? The lazy FA working the front side of the drink cart had zero sense of urgency taking and fulfilling orders. Meanwhile the 2 FAs on the back side of the drink cart were slinging burgers like no tomorrow, so by the time the lazy FA got around to trying to get me my burger, they were all sold out. I hadn’t eaten all day either. As you can tell, I’m still salty about it

The only one I have not yet tried. I’ll be getting it soon. I recently had the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich and the Bagel Breakfast Sandwich. Both were good. I’m tired of the food in the First Class rotation, so happy to mix it up with these.

Where’s the ‘caprese’ ? That formaggio doesn’t look like fresh mozzarella . And the fresh basil ?
I’d mercifully 0.5 points for the Ciabata bun attempt, though.
My nona back in the Old World would be turning in her grave ( full disclosure: don’t have one, lol ) .. Would love to
hear what the Italians might comment on this “abomination’ ( or at least mislabeling ? ) …. lol .,.,

      It’s disgusting.
Nothing says “you will eat it and you will like it” like a hard as rock bun, mystery meat burger patty with slimy cheese concoction and mustard and mayo as your only condiments to make it palatable.
Nonna would disown you for this abomination.
      —————-HARD PASS.
      Bring back the Pretzel Burger.

The 1190 mile radius caught my eye. There’s maybe others but IAH-IAD is exactly 1190.

I guess I stand at least partially corrected upon re-reading the post, as I do see just a glimpse of what looks like Mozzarella, but I don’t think sun dried tomatoes are common in a Caprese style ? .. And still don’t see any evidence of fresh basil.. Still bet the ‘nona’ would not be impressed !

Matt – that looks like it came from 7-Eleven. I have a hard time believing that was delicious. I think your otherwise discerning taste turns soft when it comes to United burgers, loool.

Looking forward to your review of the new Polaris seat.

How heinous. Shocking you’d like it considering how otherwise health conscious you are.
