I just enjoyed a wonderful breakfast on United Airlines…the subject of this week’s Meal of the Week.
Whenever I am on a breakfast flight, I typically order eggs. Eggs are difficult to screw up, tend to be healthier and higher in protein than other options, and also are often quite tasty. But once in awhile I mix it up.
Yesterday, I flew from Newark to Los Angels aboard United’s “Premium Transcontinental Service” in business class. The breakfast menu offered three choices: savory cheese quiche, brioche soufflé with apple, or cereal. The “brioche soufflé” is a essentially French Toast covered in vanilla and berry sauce.
I’ve heard many good things about this dish over the years but never actually tried it. So I did.
And I’m so glad I did. It was so delicious…like the best airline dessert (let’s call it what it is) I’ve EVER had on an airplane. Plus a cinnamon roll on top of it.
Carbs and fat with carbs, fat, more carbs and more fat. I know.
The last time I ordered French Toast on United was in 2013…it happened to be on the same route. Back then, the French Toast was horrible. What a difference five years makes.
I’m guesstimating between 1,500-2,000 calories for this breakfast, but I can assure you…it was worth it.
If you are ever flying United and see this on the menu, order it. You won’t regret it.
Cinnamon ROLE or ROLL ?
Fixed. Thanks.
And addictive not addicting…
Yes, sometimes UA can do a reasonable breakfast. Often too much sugar.
Anything tastes good with enough fat and sugar!
I love the headline, it just cracks me up. While I realize that you’re serious, delicious and domestic airline food rarely can be used in the same sentence with a straight face. Nonetheless, glad to hear that you liked it so much.
Trust me, this was simply divine.
@ Matthew — Did you bring your insulin? 🙂
By far my favourite airline breakfast in North America. Although I don’t opt for the cinnamon roll when they offer this 🙂
Just flew on united and the food was inedible. Literally had a gash in the plastic bowl it was served in and burnt potatoes. I’m glad you got decent food but the rest of the plane was served disappointment.
You received one of the free hot breakfasts in economy class? Generally I find those to be very edible. Sorry you had a bad experience.
The carbs, the carbs!
I find it interesting that you think eggs are hard to screw up… I’d say the screw up is low stakes since the taste is relatively the same, but I think they’re very easy to screw up.
That I took the time to write this comment shows how bored I am lol
Seriously, how do you not weigh 500 lbs? :’D
Good metabolism/genes.
I have been looking all over the internet for United’s Brioche soufflé with berry compote and vanilla creme recipe. It is my favorite dessert of all time. If anyone has the recipe, please share!!!
