United Airlines flights over the United States and Canada are back in the air after a technical issue this morning briefly grounded all flights.
United Airlines Ground Stop – What Happened?
From 6:45AM to 7:30AM ET, no United Airlines flights took off this morning. United’s website and mobile app were also down intermittently.
A United spokesperson explained:
“This morning we experienced technical system issues that impacted our operations and have since been resolved. All systems are now working normally and we are working diligently to get customers to their destinations.”
While United would not go into detail about the nature of the glitch, hundreds of passenger reported on Twitter that they could not check-in for their flight or login to their United MileagePlus accounts.
Hi there, Kevin. Yes, we are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible. Please try to log in again in an hour. We’re sorry for the inconvenience. ^RB

Per FlightAware, United has cancelled seven flights and delayed 42 flights today.
CONCLUSION
Whatever the root of the issue, it has since been resolved. For United, the issue occurring early in the morning will likely avoid a cascading effect of delays and cancellations that often results from such outages.
Was your United flight impacted this morning by the system outage?
Sorry everyone, it was my fault. I was trying to book a multi-segment, open-jaw award ticket using partner airlines on united.com this morning and it crashed the whole system.
Oh Joe, oh Joe!!! Always out to get in trouble!! Hahahaha! BTW, while you’re at it,can you please stir things up and fix UA’s pathetic meal service? Thanks!
Totally understandable… If I had missed the LifeMiles 32% transfer bonus, I’d be so mad I’d try to shut down United’s network too.
Lifemiles clawed back the extra 15%. Now it’s only 15%, not 32%
Having had to sit on the floor for a couple of hours in the LAX check-in area b/c of a United systems outage, I always carry a paper boarding pass so that I can at least get through security.
This is issue also impacted Wifi payment verification as well. I was on a BOS-IAH flight, and for the first hour of the flight, in-flight Wifi and (free) entertainment had connectivity, but it would spin and spin on the payment verification screen, until kicking you back. Was resolved about 90 minutes into the flight.
