United Closes All Non-Hub Clubs; Only Nine Lounges Remain Open

Matthew Klint Posted onMarch 28, 2020March 28, 2020 4 Comments

United Club Lifetime Restrictions

Citing a continued decrease in demand, United is shuttering all of its lounges at non-hub airports, leaving open just a handful of clubs at mainland U.S. hubs.

United Lounges Currently Closed

Effective March 29, 2020 the following lounges will be closed (some already closed last week).

  • Atlanta – ATL
  • Austin – AUS
  • Boston – BOS
  • Chicago – ORD (B18 United Club)
  • Chicago – ORD (C16 United Club – will remain open until 04/01/20)
  • Chicago – ORD (Polaris Lounge)
  • Chicago – ORD (T2 United Club)
  • Cleveland – CLE
  • Dallas – DFW
  • Denver – DEN (West B32 United Club)
  • Ft. Lauderdale – FLL
  • Guam – GUM
  • Hong Kong – HKG
  • Honolulu – HNL
  • Houston – IAH (A9 United Club)
  • Houston – IAH (B Mezzanine United Club)
  • Houston – IAH (C33 United Club)
  • Houston – IAH (Polaris Lounge)
  • Las Vegas – LAS
  • London – LHR (Arrivals Lounge)
  • London – LHR (United Club)
  • Los Angeles – LAX (Polaris Lounge)
  • Minneapolis – MSP
  • New Orleans – MSY
  • New York – LGA
  • Newark – EWR (A2 United Club)
  • Newark – EWR (C93 pop-up United Club)
  • Newark – EWR (Polaris Lounge)
  • Orlando – MCO
  • Philadelphia – PHL
  • Portland – PDX
  • Raleigh – RDU
  • San Antonio – SAT
  • San Diego – SAN
  • San Francisco – SFO (E4 United Club)
  • San Francisco – SFO (Polaris lounge)
  • San Francisco – SFO (Temp BAE Mezzanine United Club)
  • Santa Ana – SNA
  • Seattle – SEA
  • Tokyo – NRT (United Club)
  • Washington – DCA
  • Washington Dulles – IAD (C4 United Club)
  • Washington Dulles – IAD (C7 United Club)
  • Washington Dulles – IAD (D8 United Club)

United Lounges Which Remain Open

Nine lounges remain open, all located at continental USA hubs.

  • Chicago – ORD (B6 United Club)
  • Denver – DEN East (B44 United Club)
  • Houston – IAH (E11 United Club)
  • Houston – IAH (C1 United Club)
  • Los Angeles – LAX (71A United Club)
  • Newark – EWR (C74 United Club)
  • San Francisco – SFO (G6 United Club)
  • San Francisco – SFO (F11 United Club)
  • Washington – IAD (C17 United Club)

These lounges will have “reduced service and amenities” though United did not specify what that meant.

CONCLUSION

With airports like ghost towns and load factors in the 20% range, these closures are hardly a surprise.

I’ve been staying home so I don’t have an answer, but if you have been in a United Club recently please leave a comment below describing what the amenities were like. Packaged carrots and cheese only? How crowded were they? I’m genuinely curious…it may help us to determine if United will leave any club open if this period of weak demand continues.

On thurs, sfo had full bar, and individually wrapped items… wrapped apples, granola bars, etc… barstools were removed but every other table / hi top were open. Boston this morn was serving only cereal, granola bars, wrapped muffins, wrapped bagels, and had staff member serving coffee… no bar or other bev choices

Note if you have just renewed your membership in the last 30 days, you can cancel and refund (as I just did this week). Had zero pushback which I found suprising…

I was at FLL and IAH UCs this past Wednesday.

I was the only one at the FLL UC in the morning.
    There were five staff.

Later in the day, I was at UC near C 1 at IAH. There were about 10 people during lunch time.

Bars are both lounges we’re open and they serve coffee and hot water as well. Coffee machines, soda machines and self-serving coffeeand food stations were closed. Only packaged snacks and regular coffee are available.

At IAH, I cannot even tough the packaged snacks. Only the staff can hand me the snacks and plates.

My drinks at the bar were served in glass at FLL but plastic cups at IAH.

Sorry, but ridiculous at the lack of availability of anything at theses clubs. It’s COVID-19, not the bubonic plague
