United Airlines is increasing its provisioning of pajamas in Polaris Business Class on many longhaul routes, meaning you no longer will have to pounce on the limited number of sets available ahead of your next flight.
More Pajamas + Slippers In United Airlines Polaris Business Class
United Airlines offers pajamas in business class on its flights that are longer than 14 hours (a recent change from 12 hours).
A memo to flight attendants reviewed by Live And Let’s Fly reveals that pajamas will finally be fully provisioned (meaning there will be enough for every passenger in business class) on these longhaul flights.
We’re adding slippers and pajamas at 100% on request in the Polaris cabin for additional markets.
These products will now be available on all long-haul international Polaris flights between the U.S. to/from Africa, Asia, India, the Pacific and the Middle East starting on flights out of the U.S. on January 15.
Here are some details:
- Pajamas will be provided out of the hubs in the U.S. for outbound and return flights.
- Slippers will be provided at the hubs and international locations for their departure flights.
- Mattress pads on these routes remain at 40% provisioning

On a serious note, this is a good move from United, even if long overdue.
It’s a shame the longest flights between the West Coast and Europe (all under 14 hours) have been cut. It’s also a shame that mattress pads are only provisioned at 40% when they make such a positive difference in aiding sleep…but hey, better than another MileagePlus cutback, right?
There are a couple of exception markets that offer pajamas like Newark – Marrakech (only 7.5 hours) and the upcoming IAD-DSS service (8.5 hours).
I sense that these pajamas will still not be proactively offered. Be sure to ask for them if you’re stepping onto a longhaul Polaris flight.

There are always leftover PJs and mattress pads from previous flights even on European routes. I’ve never not been able to get PJs or mattress pads on any Polaris routes, including ORD/EWR/IAD-ZRH/AMS/BRU/MUC/BER and SFO-HND/NRT/TPE that are scheduled for less than 12 hours.
I’ve gotten PJs in SFO -TPE every time but not SFO-SYD, didn’t even get ice cream.
You never know what you’re going to get.
The only consistent things is that you always have to ask more than once and no size fits right. SM shirt is too tight. LXL pants are too baggy

Lots of 14+ hours flights to Africa, Asia, Australia
Wrong, Darius. The LAX-HKG flight I took a couple of weeks ago was blocked at over 16 hours, and we were in the air for more than 15 hours. With the inability to overfly Russian airspace, in addition to the flights that were already blocked at 14+, many flights that weren’t 14+ hours are now at least that long.
Just to clarify, are routes from USA to Asia blocked at under 14 hours (i.e. HND-SFO is blocked at as little as 9h25m) eligible for pajamas?
I don’t know – but I will find out.
I wonder if PJ routes change with season. Winds can make a big difference in flight time
Dang, no ORD-GRU PJs? That’s the main flight I take 4 or 5 times a year.
Flew about two months ago from SFO to ICN and pajamas were left on the front on the counter in front of the plane. Not many know to ask. I requested mattress pad, and I received also. I have SFO to Osaka tomorrow and let’s see.
